Arranging the music of one song...
"Chemical Plant Zone"
Primary Game: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Sega , 1992, GEN), music by Masato NakamuraPosted 2013-08-05, evaluated by the judges panel
Newcomer Air3s (aka SonicThHedgog, irl Adeseye) certainly surprised us with this aggressively impolite dubsteppish electronic arrangement of Sonic 2's 'Chemical Plant Zone,' reminiscent of - while decidedly distinct from - PrototypeRaptor's take on the theme. Both tracks are fantastic, hard-hitting meditations on a classic Sega source. In this case, while a resubmission was necessary to iron out some mastering issues, there's a huge variety of creative breaks, build-ups, drops, hits, and tricks. Nothing sits still, everything spazzes out, synths melt down and reconstruct themselves from the burnt ashes as a relentless bass & beat maintain a throbbing pulse. Nothing feels gratuitous or fatiguing; even as one's ears are assaulted with a litany of explicit synth language, such oscillator profanity feels rather justified. I'm sure it won't please the "Get off my lawn with your SYNTH BASS!!" crowd of wobblephobes, but who cares? It's a lot of fun. Palpable writes:
"I could see some people finding this a little liberal, but I feel like there's enough hints of the original scattered throughout to make it plenty recognizable. I love the random departures mid-melody, almost as if you got bored with the original. Just a fun song to listen to."
Larry, with the slightly backhanded forum behavior diss/complement, adds:
"Didn't hear the first version, but just throwing a quick co-sign on this one after the fact. The handling of the source was relatively straightforward, but the original was there in spades. Even if the drop-offs and early builds could make this seem liberal, I didn't find it to be. I thought the only thing SonicThHedgog made was bad posts. Congrats, bro, you're the new Nekofrog! Welcome!"
Ahem. At any rate, this is a really solid, highly enjoyable debut mix from an artist whose initial presence on our forums didn't necessarily foreshadow such an event. Apparently Adeseye plans on focusing more on original compositions via his soundcloud, so we may not hear from him again for awhile, but hopefully he'll change his mind - I think this initial arrangement is strong & very promising. Great, very aggressive take on a fantastic source that lends itself well to the abuse!

Very aggressive ReMix... But I love it! I've always wanted OCR to have more dubstep/electronica ReMixes like this one.

i was lukewarm to this track at first but after a few spins i think i might like it more than chemixtrixx.
dang.
most of my beef with it lies in that cheesy-ass snare build near the beginning but the more i hear it the more it seems to make sense with the wackiness of everything
all in all: good stuff

Loud and heavy, but from my end it comes off as a positive more than anything. As messed up as the synths got in their gritty ways, the original melody shined through and came off well in the electro style. Not bad at all and a great debut. Also, as crazy as the title is, it works after hearing the song.

What
is up with the name of this track? Lol
Yeah, good track though. Its pretty crazy.

I'm guessing you play Smash Bros? That title...
Really enjoyable mix, not too liberal at all to any real OG.

yah hehe! you were the first one to ever hear this one too lol.
I am honored to have been a part of this historic moment.

The worst thing about this mix is the title. Shoulda stuck with "Dem Chemicals". "Dat disjointed chemical" makes no sense. The track is still awesome as hell though. I remember the first time I heard it...which was quite awhile ago
yah hehe! you were the first one to ever hear this one too lol. To think this track almost got canceled XD:tomatoface:
SonicThHedgog got posted! I remember when this was first on the WIP boards, and boy has it changed since then! I think this - for better or worse - is an insight into the mind of the Hedgog, where nothing stays still for a second! It's loud, it's energetic, and it's completely ADHD. Great remix dude, although I wish you'd gone with the WIP title of "Dem Chemicals" instead
I has ADHD XD

I don't mind that it's electro house. It did sound a bit overcompressed at times, though, and the treble on some of the leads and basses is a tad too high, but other than that, great debut.

Woooooo! Congrats on the post Air3s! This is definitely one of my favorite Chemical Plant remixes! I love the hard hitting bass and synths. It's definitely got a more 'modern' aggressive electronica groove to it. Well done!

Oohh, hello, Mr. Hedgog!! o/ \oHeh, this sounds like the universe's collapsing in a toilet flush. Which is absolutely... fascinating, right? Well, means I like it! Now, I still remember when I said I'd throw a party for you once this mix got frontpage'd.
*Dances*
Great mix, love the creativity, energy, and feeling of the track. It's still a lil too loud + harsh in the upper frequencies for my personal tastes.
Agreed, It seems my headphones lied to me when I was mixing the high-ends XD (though I usually dont mix with cans, its was late night)
Kidding in the writeup aside, this is the way to bring it!We're always open to this kind of music, so if you ever change your mind, we're here. Send it over!
Ok! (still wonders how you found out about my "Airline" alias lol
well... their is actually one last remix for a Sonic CD project. Its electro, but a more smooth sound compared to this song.
