KID CHAMELEON!! We've been a little light on the Sega, lately, what with FF6 & POKEMANZ taking up so many cycles, but I'm thrilled to be posting our first ReMix of one of the more unsung heroes (get it?) of the 16-bit era. This highly unusual & nearly uncategorizable mix from the singular Sir Jordanius is filled to the brim with funk, fusion, wah, bass, retro, grease, grime, and some more modern electro/dubstep elements strewn here and there. It's a chimera, but it's a fresh & flagrantly funky one, and I'm glad the artist revised it based on judge comments into a freaky, flamboyant Frankenstein. Given that the protagonist is famed & named for his transformative abilities, it seems fitting that our first arrangement of the game's music embraces the same principles. Jordan writes:

"I started working on this arrangement way back in 2008 when I intended to make an album of remixes from my favorite video games, but since then that specific project has unfortunately been undergoing the Dr. Dre Detox treatment. Throughout the years, this mix has had several iterations, and after a while I just tossed it aside altogether (every now and then I'd resub it to the judges and a few weeks later resubmit a different version, because I just kept on getting dissatisfied with the results). After hearing Benjamin Briggs' "Trash FM" and receiving an email from DrumJ8, I finally had enough motivation to focus on making a "Mord-Fustang-meets-Daft-Punk-meets-Ratatat" type arrangement that I could be pleased with. Long story short, this is the precise song (both OCR-wise and personal music-wise) that left a benchmark in my musical pursuits by making me realize the grave news that I suffer from the terrible, terrible disease known as perfectionism. T_T Here's to hoping it paid off!"

As a fellow victim of this paralyzing, demoralizing condition, I can appreciate where he's coming from. I'm stoked that this mix is finally seeing the light of day on OCR, though, as every mix Jordan releases is a little microcosm unto itself, this is a sound/aesthetic we don't hear too often, and let's be honest - Kid Chameleon needed the love. He was feeling lonely, bouncing around all day on rubber blocks in a silly samurai outfit, so these jams should make him very happy. They certainly made OA happy:

"It's like a pizza with the entire menu on it! YUM! Thank you for fixing the timing on the beats. It takes several listens to figure out what the heck is going on, but it's definitely time well spent. I love it."

And Larry as well:

"Loved the arrangement before, and this only tightens the screws and removes the grating production, all without sacrificing any of its character. Great work by Jordan (just co-signing after the fact)! He holds his mixes often, but they're always worth the wait. :-)"

You have to hear this mix to believe it, as there's a textural cornucopia baked in that is highly referential & unpredictably diverse, yet it all comes together in a mix that takes you for a ride (HD) & has a lot of fun doing it. Please Sir, may we have some.... more?? Completely unique & wonderfully iconoclastic take on KC's jams.

After listening to this song, I can't hear anything properly. Everything is filtered through a groovy lens. Truly, my senses will never be the same.

Amazingly innovative, funky, fun. Having read the original decision, I'm curious what the original sounded like. This was wacky, but never out of kilter or loose. I like how you brought things mellow in the middle, then slowly amped back up for the end of the song.

This is genre chimera, sure. But it's actually a very beautiful chimera. This track never repeats even for a second, which is quite nice. With great ammount of funk, glitching effects and super tasty vocal clips, which set the right upbeat, head-bopping mood of this track, this is my favorite from Sir J.

Outstanding. Takes me back to Step of My Flowerbed by Nase. This is the stuff that you never hear anywhere but here.

I was intrigued by the title, and then that Billie Jean intro drew me in. What happened next, I have no idea, but it was insanely awesome. How you can create something so seemingly chaotic and yet cohesive at the same time is beyond me, yet you've done it! Your influences are clear, and I approve wholeheartedly :)

Oh yeah, Jordan is the man!!!!! I think I may have heard a version or two of this over the years in the WIP forums, but I don't recall.

Yep I found the old thread from last year and you had commented. This track is so good, I can't stop listening to it :D

How many styles can you fit into one ReMix without sounding overly chaotic or messy? A ton, apparently. Kudos on that. Midway through, you really shine in on that groove and vocal clips where things even out and the whole thing comes off as a musical twister: has a lot of stuff in it but swirls around like clockwork and it works! Awesome ReMix, man!

Great song, crazy even, but there seems to be some capitalization problems with the title. :-)

This song is like an aural theme park where I'm fast-passing to the front of every attraction. In other words, awesome work as usual, Jordan!

Oh yeah, Jordan is the man!!!!! I think I may have heard a version or two of this over the years in the WIP forums, but I don't recall. Regardless, this song is beyond words... so many juicy instruments, delicious beats, and an unstoppable groove. Jordan continues to amaze me with each and every new song I hear from him. Keep it up! :)

When Jordan mentioned he had a Kid Chameleon mix in the queue, I was excited, BUT I WAS NOT PREPARED!

This is ridiculous, so FM and so fitting to the game. Constantly changing textures, like the character, constantly changing personas. A one of a kind mix, in more ways than one. I love it.

Aw yeah! Neat detail work on this, loving it! I love the bitcrushed sweeps, wobbles, and vocaloid material. And what's wrong with perfectionism, bro? :-x
