We're back from PAX - thanks to all who came to our panel or just stopped us in the halls to chat for a bit! We had a great time, as always, and it was particularly awesome to have Grant Kirkhope & Tommy Tallarico in the audience for our presentation! Speaking of Tommy, we're psyched to be posting this mix (!!) of some classic Pac-Man themes he did with Dweezil Zappa (!!) that was originally released as part of the soundtrack to Pac-Man World Rally back in 2006! The timing is conducive to the following pimpage:

There are only 8 days left for the Video Games Live Level 3 kickstarter!!!

Tommy & VGL have been doing amazing things for video game music, have reached out to fans and artists alike the world over to put together shows that incorporate diverse talent and feature a wide variety of your favorite game music, and fairly recently Jillian Aversa joined the VGL ranks & has performed at several shows, including an amazing Blizzard-focused concert in China! Livin' the dream!! Point being, this is a great kickstarter to contribute to & helping VGL release a third album is a very worthwhile goal! Still not convinced?

Hear Tommy & Jill make their case themselves!!

I just backed it myself, I'm pretty darn confident it'll be awesome, and any support you can give Tommy & co. in their enduring quest to globally evangelize VGM should be money well spent! Now on to the music... it's a little odd to be posting a mix that was actually released as part of a game soundtrack, but when that soundtrack itself was arranging classic Pac-Man themes, and when it's a Tallarico-Zappa collab, well... that's pretty sick. Dweezil contributed as a performer to the first VGL album and as both arranger & performer to the Conker: Live and Reloaded Original Soundtrack, so he's got some additional VGM roots, but it's especially awesome that the two of them recorded this specific track in the same studio that Frank Zappa used... as I was telling Tommy at PAX, I'm a huge FZ fan and Apostrophe was my jam in high school. This mix, while brief, incorporates some classic Pac-Man themes and riffs & rocks around them in an upbeat style that blends guitars, retro-synths, & slick beats for an homage to some of gaming's earliest memorable melodies. It's fun stuff, I was glad that it jived with our standards enough to post it, and I think it kinda shows what Tommy's all about - respect for VGM past, present, and future, which he's been doing a great job expressing through Video Games Live for several years now! Help VGL take things to the next level with another album, and enjoy the mix!

I enjoyed this kickass mix, sure, but I would enjoy it more if it was longer. This mix sounds like a teaser for something bigger, something more epic, something more mind-blowing. Anyway, this is great work!

The only problem with this is the length. I waited about 10 seconds for the music to kick in again, but it didn't, and having sensed a lot for this track it did leave me only partially satisfied. At 1:20 I definitely think you can experiment and expand on the melody instead of it going "up and out", so to speak. It's definitely going somewhere amazing at that point.

What an incredibly mind blowing realization of Dweezil Zappa and Tommy Tallarico working together and getting a ReMix up, and of Pac-Man music! Honestly, I'm really glad that they were able to fit in "Act 1-They Meet", because it's one of the sources I really like from the Pac-Man games that never seem to get touched (love Ms. Pac-Man more than original anyway). The only nit-pick is that it's short time-length, but that's what the replay button is for. Such a great ReMix, I love it!

Uh... Wow. Some high energy yeah, but WAY too short! It had some medley-itis but it was really awesome. Good job!

[EDIT] OK, yeah, this really is too short. As soon as you're into the music, it's already over. That's really sucky :(

You're telling me that I'm supposed to REALLY believe that this seriously is a remix made by Tommy Tallarico aaaand THE Dweezil Zappa?

this is unbelievably amazing. ohmaigawd where is my wallet.

I keep on looking at the 'remixer(s)' and I'm still just not believeing what I'm seeing.

Literally everything this man has said. Big fans of both people and I never expected in a million years to see a remix credit to Dweezil fucking ZAPPA. Mix is totally totally awesome, great groovy synthy guitar rock out. My only complaint is that its too short :(

Also, where are the fucking comments? SHOW THIS REMIX MORE LOVE PEOPLE!

Just in case anyone's wondering about a breakdown, I conservatively timed it out:

Pac-Man "Start BGM" - :09.5-13.5, :19.5-:27.5, :36.5-:37.5, :39.5-:43.5, 1:01.5-1:09.5, 1:14.5-1:15.5, 1:17.5-1:21.5

Pac-in-Time "Forest" - :15.5-:19.5, :27.5-:36.5, 1:47.5-1:48, 1:49.5-1:50, 1:52.5-1:54, 1:56.75-1:58.25, 1:59.75-2:00.25, 2:02.75-2:03.25, 2:04.75-2:06.25

Ms. Pac-Man "Act 1: They Meet" - 1:33.5-1:42.75, 1:42.75-1:47 (quiet delay effect)

Nice energy here, and definitely some cool stuff from Tommy and Dweezil. Cool to have them both officially on this side of the ranks. Unreal.
