ReMix:Lemmings 3D "The Fog of War" 4:25

Palpable agreed several years ago to have this excellent electronic/orchestral Lemmings 3D ReMix - our first from the game - set aside for a special site occasion. Well, while we've released a ton of amazing albums, posted a ton of superb ReMixes, and have generally kept chugging away, some of our goals for improving the overall website have fallen victim to time constraints & others have been sacrificed due to what can only be described as asinine behavior by the makers of the vBulletin forum software we currently use. There's no point in making excuses, and hindsight is always 20/20, but I'd certainly like to thank him for his patience on this track, which as I mentioned is EXCELLENT - those string runs are CLUTCH. He writes:

"Lemmings 3D has the best soundtrack no one ever heard, and it's the only game I've ever bought just for the soundtrack (though the game is not bad too). I even came up with names for the tracks - I'm dedicated, dammit! In my mind, some of the songs on it are perfect and unremixable; I remixed one of the ones that lends itself to embellishment. The original is desolate and sounds like a battlefield after the conflict is over, so I tried to go the opposite route, a heavier zircon/Crystal Method-inspired heat-of-battle style.

This is my first mix with sampled dialogue and it comes from the very good documentary "The Fog of War," which is ripe with great quotes for stealing. The lines fit the war theme, and can you think of a game with more unnecessary death than Lemmings?"

With shutdowns and debt ceilings and all manner of nonsense currently transpiring, peace is seeming pretty darn foggy, too. The 21st century certainly isn't lending itself to any sense of moral imperative, ethical clarity, or global unity thus far... unless you count LOLcats, which everyone seems to like. I mentioned we'd be posting this mix to Vinnie and he was actually a little ambivalent since so much time has passed & he's learned a lot since, but I think the arrangement really stands up just as well today as it would have four years ago, and I'd still be giving him the mad props if he said he just finished it yesterday. The heavier, electronic focus is both clean and powerful, but the aforementioned string stabs and runs are really the defining component, in my mind. Given the delays, Vinnie did take the opportunity a few months ago to make some minor revisions & tighten up the mastering, so at least the wait brought some benefit. LOVE the filtered transition and subsequent machine-gun synth line @ 2'15" - downright badass. Don't let lack of familiarity with the game or its OST stop you from enjoying this track; the artist has done a fantastic job crafting an aggressive electronic battle royale, with an arsenal of synths & orchestral elements that present a formidable, unified front. Highly recommended!
