2013 has been THE YEAR for ReMixer comebacks; so many faces from 5, 6, 7 years ago returning with new and amazing music, it's been absolutely phenonemal to witness, has really defined this year for me, and makes me proud that we've been around long enough & persevered through good times and bad to make it possible in the first place. In what might be the longest comeback EVAR, Main Finger (Jesse Gregory) follows up his debut Metroid ReMix from May of 2002 (I KNOW, RIGHT?!?) with this electronic/dubstep SF2 (Boxer) + SFA3 (Rose) mashup he contributed to the same SF compo that OA's just-posted "Femmes Fatales" was part of. So after ELEVEN YEARS AND FIVE MONTHS we finally have a second mix from Jesse, and it doesn't disappoint. He writes:

"Hoo, boy! It's certainly been awhile. I'm on a mission. A mission to wipe the smug grin off of 2002 Main Finger's face. For the last ten years, he's sat on his throne, taunting his future self. I've had my share of rejections as I've attempted to take him down, but the last few remix competitions have a put a fire in my eyes and I think I'm finally ready to deliver the blow!

But seriously, I really gotta get a song that's less than 10 years old on here >_>;

I made Punched by a Rose for the World Warrior Remix Royale. All the kids like the dubsteps these days and well, I've been bitten by the bug, too. But I present a more melodic dubstep than some, and one contained in a mix that, like a shark, can't stay in one spot or it will die! (or something). Balrog was my pick and I've combined his theme with that of my enemy, Rose. It was a challenge working with Rose's theme, but I think I pulled it off. In fact, the result was a win and an advance to the next round (huzah!)."

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Plenty to love, here: this is definitely a more melodic form of dubstep that may even prompt some converts, both themes (especially Rose's) aren't as commonly arranged but are definitely deserving, there's a lot of structural variety to keep things interested, the beats & bass hit hard, and the whole thing is cogent, develops nicely, and (most importantly) is a hell of a lot of fun. Nutritious writes:

"Really good stuff here from Main Finger (Which finger IS the main finger? Do I want to know?). Lots of energy here and you've managed what IMO is the hardest part about producing dubstep: getting a good set of gritty synths and putting them together in a way where they compliment and play off each other in an interesting way."

Love the mix, love the title (Seal's hit would have had such a different tone...), and love that Jesse's persisted in giving his debut mix some company and succeeded - with quite a bit of style. While primarily an SF2 mix (Boxer dominates a bit), this is ALSO our first arrangement of SFA3, which had all-new tunes for the full roster, and was long overdue for some TLC. A rose by any other name might smell as sweet, but a finger by any other name would not be Main. Great to have another MF mix on the site, and I'm looking forward to hearing more from Jesse in the not-nearly-as-distant future!

Is it wrong for me to use this song when I play as Balrog in the Street Fighter IV games? It just fits so well XDD

This song is such a well done piece and I like that just the over all feel of Balrog dubstep was unexpected as well as simply mind-blowing. So all-in-all, amazing work.

Damn, this is very pretty meoldic dubstep, being gritty and hard-hitting at the same time. Awesome combination of both themes.

The instruments are also chosen well. ESPECIALLY DAT GUITAR AT 1:53. It just blew me aways. Cool piano too. Glithing effects are also very enjoyable.

As others have said, it's melodically glitch-y in a great way. Makes ya' nod ya' head.

Wubs, yai-yais, chip arps, sine leads, ethnic plucked instruments, screamin' saws, choir, glitching, "guitars," lovely piano, kickin' drums, damn is that all ya got, I'm disappointed.

I love this so hard. :)

Well, this is pretty cool, especially with the major tonalities by the lead synths in a minor key. My only gripe is the drum programming isn't tight enough during the halftime sections, so I agree with Deia. Everywhere else is awesome.

Gritty and glitchy for sure, but keeping the main melodies intact while expanding on them with electronic flair is quite the feat. I was glad to see some piano pop in among the grinding power, which kinda seems reminiscent of Balrog and Rose's characters as well, making this compo fight even more fitting. That might be unintentional, I don't know, but I love little things like that. Nice work and good return to the front page, Main Finger!
