ReMix:Bionic Commando "Proceed Without Caution" 4:28

Sir_NutS closes us out with a trance take on the CLASSIC main Bionic Commando theme; Mr. Molina writes:

"What does this game mean to me? It means my childhood, it means my friends back then, some of them who I'll never be able to see again, but whom I can visit from time to time through this game. When I play it, I'm that 7-year-old kid sitting cross-legged in front of the TV, NES controller in hand, at his friend's house. It's the same as perceiving a particular smell that reminds you of some point in your life, or watching old pictures. I feel like I'm back there again. I wanted to give my best to this project because of that. It has real meaning for me."

Anthemic, uplifting, and invigorating, the main BC NES theme is the source most gamers are likely to be familiar with... it's got its own special place in the Hall of Legendary NES Melodies, and the over-the-topness of the actual melodic motif can make it tricky to work with - my own ReMix is NOT a particularly good example of it being done justice, for example :) I like the trance aesthetic the artist went with, here, and I like the spacing & rhythmic modifications to the source to make it fit with the genre, without seeming too frantic or saccharine. I LOVE how things break into a very militant, march shuffle on the snares at around 1'56", and how that feel is continued into the break @ 2'10" - very smart arranging, and connects back to the game universe in a direct way. It's neat that the different artists contributing to the album have such varying relationships with the game, some having never played it, others recalling it fondly. While I don't think any LACK of familiarity with the game came through (in cases where the ReMixer was less familiar), with this mix I do feel like Sir_NutS' very intimate nostalgia did probably inform & improve his arrangement. This feels like a very distilled, very appropriate homage to the game, communicated by way of its most memorable & primary theme.
