HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
We've got a thumpin' lineup of spooktacular Castlevania electro ReMixes to make your October 31st a night to remember! Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR awesome CV mixes, starting with this vocoded jam from zircon:
"This remix started out as a 30-second original sketch back in 2010. I was playing with some excellent retro drum machine samples by Goldbaby, using the first vocoded lyric and a few synths to create a basic funky beat. I was inspired by some of Rayza's earlier mixes, namely "Sonik Elektronik." After that initial session, I forgot about the track until last night when I happened to dig it up out of my massive FL projects folder. The beat and vocoding grabbed my attention and I got the itch to turn it into a VGM remix.
I picked Vampire Killer as the source for two reasons: one, I've been meaning to remix it properly for about 8 years now, and two, its relatively minimal nature allows for a lot of fun melodic and harmonic changes. I was really having fun with it, and finished the whole thing within a 24-hour period. I think compared to most of my ReMixes, it has a very raw and dry sound, influenced by artists like po!. Of course, the way I jazzed up the melody and chord progression is very much in the style of Joshua Morse too. I guess this mix is just one big tribute. Get that pork chop!"
Funny you should mention Mr. Morse, as we'll be seeing him in a couple mixes, too :) This was a quick mix for Andy to wrap-up, but that's more a testament to his almost absurdly efficient & refined worklow (and resulting productivity) than it is a statement about the music itself, which is every bit a true zircon mix: infectious, slick, high-energy, and accessible. Larry writes:
"Easily one of the most unique and uncharacteristic takes on Castlevania music that I've ever heard. And I say that having heard my fair share. This is another rare one in that it features zircon on (vocoded) vocals. If electrofunk and pork chop references are wrong for Dracula, I don't wanna be right. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Andy has the time to finish every arrangement idea that comes into his head; yet another piece that has a lot of fun while showing off his unreal creative range."
One may not think "vocoded electro groove" when one thinks of dark & stormy nights and the blood-sucking evil of Count D, but it all works swimmingly & it turns out Drac can really shake it. Great amalgam of influences & flavors in this short-but-sweet mix from Andy that kicks things off nicely!

A few names come to mind, that have become synonymous with with quality Pixar, Google, Blizzard and Zircon. It's Castlevania, it's Zircon, it OCR...what more do you want? The vocoder even takes the time to explain the game mechanics...

This is awesome!
I was actually hearing "Eat that candy," but that's probably because I was playing candybox2 at the time.

Definitely hearing the Sonik Electronik style in this ReMix, which I love to death. Excellent vox work and I have to say that this is my favorite Vampire Killer ReMix to date. So good, Zircon, gold star for you!

Oh and I swear I am hearing "Whip that candle, get that boob job" in the vocoder lyrics. I am not hearing "pork chop" there, hahahaha. Does Dracula have something he needs to share?

Oh hell yeah. I'm definitely feeling the Morse influences here and that vocoder is sooooo sick. So funky and so fresh. Nice job!!

I think it's great Zircon tributes Joshua Morse by not only using influenced chord changes, but even one of Morse's favorite games. This is great, very funky and the chiptune synths work really well.

ALRIGHT! I've been waiting for this to get on the site since like August 2012. xD

Feel that electronic sound
Move your body up and down
Arpeggios, they move your feet
It's that old-school chiptune beat

Whip that candle
Get that pork chop
Whip that candle
Get that heart rock
