You want some pokeemanz?? We'll give you some pokeemanz.... or more correctly, TheGuitahHeroe will! Jamison breaks his three-mix run of Mystery Dungeon ReMixes but stays staunchly within the Poke-Universe with this fast-paced, d&b chippish Crystal joint that is apparently of a newly-represented genre here on OCR:
"So yeah. I don't know if any of you are really familiar with some of these ridiculously pointless electronic subgenres that just go way over the frickin' line...but this is Neurofunk.
Funny how this remix came about, really...it basically commenced from me screwing around with some kicks, spamming them at ridiculously high speeds and making solid basses out of them. The scrunching bass you hear here is the result of that. Plus pitch automation. Plus a ton of post-processing. And it was initially supposed to be an original track as well. I showed it to my friend Voracious (a.k.a. EmuZSNES (NOT EMUNATOR, WILL)) and he said the first WIP reminded him a lot of the Rocket Hideout theme from G/S/C. I then proceeded to transform my song into a remix of that theme, and threw in D/P/Pl Legendary theme for the hell of it. I had a lot of fun making some of the sounds for this. The atmosphere you hear in between the busy sections is a combination of me making the most ridiculous sound I could possibly make upon the hit of one note in my pianoroll, and a texture sound from Nexus 2."
If Gibson can prefix "Neuromancer" into existence then I guess it works for music too, though I wouldn't have necessarily associated a dnb sub-genre with being particularly cranial in nature. Then again, what is? This is faster, chipper, and a bit zanier than Jamison's other work, but it's a heck of a lot of fun, and I supposed the idea is that your BRAIN gets FUNKED... here's a Simon Reynolds quote cited from the Wiki article on the genre:
"(Neurofunk) is the fun-free culmination of jungle's strategy of cultural resistance: the eroticization of anxiety"
With apologies to Mr. Reynolds, if I had written & published that statement, I'd probably have to shamefully punch my own head into a bloody pulp shortly thereafter... but that doesn't mean the music can't be good. I actually thought this mix was a veritable boatload of fun, and Jamison said HE had fun making it, so the "fun-free" part is rather out the window, happily. OA writes:
"haha this is hilariously fun. L O L. Creative ideas, and solid execution, with a huge swath of synth ideas makes this a winner in my book. The arrangement was good and had a nice mix of source and creative tomfoolery."
See? He had fun, too, and there were even accusations of tomfoolery afoot. Palpable adds:
"Song felt simple, but you did a lot with a little. The automation is sick; every little instrument has some quirk to it. That attention to detail really adds to the replay life."
Definitely a smorgasbord of tweaks, pulls, twists, prods, modulations, and other words that sound like BDSM practices; impressive sequencing & programming from TGH on this one, to be sure. Whether your anxiety is eroticized or not, Jamison's cooked up another excellent PokeMix but definitely gone in a different direction, and this "neurofunk" business seems legit, or at least enjoyable. Great stuff!

This is a pretty intense interpretation of a Pokemon battle theme. Loved the combination of intense trace with intense chiptunes. It tells a great story too. I hear 1:57 – 2:14 and think “yay, the hero won the battle!” But then starting at 2:16-2:36, the adversary reveals that they are not done yet, and the battle continues. Great track all around.

Pretty sick evil-sounding mix! Man, that bass is just so damn great! The drum groove is pretty energetic and very cool as well. Also love the bits of chippy quirkiness @ 0:34 and @ 2:59. Wish this piece of music was longer, though. But all in all, very good job!

I'm both an electronic musician (I also play bass and guitar) and a Pokemon fan, I think this is an excellent remix. Got any tips for DnB, I'm dabbling with the style and think you're great. Keep up the great work.
Especially like the Egyptian yet electronic and turbulent feel of the piece. It's also very well arranged.

Dude, amazing production and I'm loving the whole chip-like d'n'b arrangement. Quirky and lots of fun, with a bit of a sneaky edge that fits the Rocket's hideout nicely. Probably one of the better ReMixes from you that I can think of off the bat, but that's just a matter of taste. Cool stuff, TGH.

Aw yeah dude. Really nailed those heavy drums, for sure. I do drum compression with a perfectionist mentality, so that means when I say those drums are pretty damn awesome, they just are. Production overall is way solid, and the arrangement, while just barely over the 50% guideline, is hella sweet. The sound design is sick too.
