ReMix:Final Fantasy Type-0 "Gods and Crystals" 3:26

Our FIRST arrangement of FF Type-0 & one of only a few PSP mixes on the site, Moomba takes on this modern, handheld embodiment of Cid with a very atmospheric, orchestral + chip hybrid that really emphasizes chromatic percussion and plays a continuous pattern off strings & mixed percussion. Mirby writes:

"Moomba is one of the few people I know who played through Type-0 despite the game being entirely in Japanese. As such, he knows a lot about the lore of the world, or as much as one can ascertain from playing it, I suppose. Either way, he was probably the most appropriate person to tackle a song from this game, one that I still fervently hope gets an official release here. The music is also fantastic, and Moomba manages to take the intensity of it and distill it into something comparatively chill and relaxing. Wonderful work here."

Definitely cool to get an arrangement of an as-yet-unlocalized Final Fantasy game! There's a delicacy to the bells that intro things, and some of the minimal Asian instrumentation that comes in along with the nicely-syncopated groove contributes to a feel of intricacy & competing forces being held in check in a tense balance. Very cinematic, and develops well, with the pickup @ 1'53" introducing an apex, as brass stabs heighten the suspense. Nice ritardando and transition afterwards, segueing back into a more deliberate, reprised conclusion. With this third mix, Moomba continues to show excellent craftsmanship, a keen sense of dynamics, and a very firm grasp on fluctuations of rhythms & tempo that made his arrangements more compelling. In 3'25" does & says quite a bit, and takes us on a journey with meaningful narrative pivots and genuine intrigue. Great stuff from Joe & another great track on Audio Engineering: A Tribute to Cid! Congrats to Mirby & all participating artists for pulling together for a unique concept that ended up painting a fantastic & diverse picture of the men we've known as Cid!!
