Hey wait, didn't we JUST post DjjD's FF6 mix from Audio Engineering?? Why yes, observant reader, we did... BUT Jake had a special request in for this DKC mix to be posted on the release date of the newest game in the DKC franchise, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze!! With a brand new soundtrack by David Wise and Kenji Yamamoto, we agree that it's definitely worth celebrating! The artist writes:
"Having only recently heard DarkSim's remix, I was inspired to remix this amazing Donkey Kong Country tune before I took my trip to Alaska. Was definitely influenced by zircon and Phrakture here. I've never really heard this theme done with breakbeat. So it starts out as a house/trance tune... and progresses into something else entirely. As always, hope you guys enjoy!"
Much like his FF6 "Devil's Lab" arrangement from, well... yesterday, this mix is easy to get into & enjoy, but varies things up and has enough dynamic contrast and structural changeups that it stays interesting throughout. Larry writes:
"Pretty cool stuff! The sounds are interesting in that you could throw some of the more beat-driven sections on in a laid-back club set, but it's also got some nice bubbly sounds and quieter areas that you'd never expect in that setting. While "Fear Factory" itself is more menacing by design, there's a much more deliberate pace to Jake's take that I haven't heard before with this source. Anyway, I don't want to fall into a case of paralysis by analysis (see what I did there?). The flow is strong with this one, so kick back and enjoy! :-)"
Indeed - congrats to Jake and congrats to David & Kenji for another great entry into a Nintendo series with legendary VGM!! Also be sure to check out Nyamyam Games' Tengami on iOS, a beautiful Japanese-themed adventure game with original music by Mr. Wise that dropped yesterday! With 2 major game releases in 2 days, it's great to have D. Wise back in VGM in a big way!!

Good job balancing the atmosphere and details with the club-friendly elements. The beat is definitely Zircon-esque and gives the mix a nice energy. Solid EDM mix.

Jake, you never cease to impress me with these huge soundscapes full of lots of awesome little details. Track sounds great, wonderful dynamics between the different sections.

Breakbeat style plus the source tune of Fear Factory, that's a win on just about any day of the week. Throw in DjjD's production skills, and you have a tasty mix on your hands. Let the factory stand forevermore!

Nice contrast of grungy/wobbly and breakbeat elements with some percolating arps and bendy saw leads. 3:35 - 3:50 was probably my favorite part.

I remember hearing this when Jake sent it to me as a mostly-done WIP. Still as tight as I remember it--love that tasty drum and bass processing!

What can I say... a top-notch production and great composition! Very inspiring!
