ReMix:Yoshi Touch & Go "Cloudhopping" 4:05

Our first arrangement of Yoshi Touch & Go for the DS is a groovy, upbeat dance collab with shades of disco from Chimpazilla & timaeus222. Kris is one of our newly appointed judges, and Truong-Son helps out all the time on our forums, so this is a collab from two artists that work well with each other & for the site, which is great to see. Chimpazilla writes:

"I've been playing this silly little DS game, Yoshi Touch & Go, and it has such catchy music. I've been meaning to remix it for a while. So I wrote a few bars of the main theme and sent it to timaeus, as we had been talking about trying a collab. He loved it, and ran with it. Less than two weeks later, we have this really unique, varied, and polished mix that we are both really happy with. We feel that the mix captures the happy-go-lucky feel of Yoshi walking on clouds.

This was a really fair and balanced effort, with both of us doing a bit of everything. I think our skills blended really well together, and we were able to teach each other some new tricks along the way. Our writing styles certainly mesh well! I'd vote for Chimpaeus, because it sounds like a simian Roman emperor that history forgot... "After Marcus Aurelius, the Roman Empire briefly experimented with placing apes in positions of leadership, eventually resulting in the tumultuous rule of the first and last chimp caesar, Chimpaeus, whose one-week tenure was embarassingly erased from most historical records." But I digress; Mr. Nugyen adds:

"Wow, this was quite a challenge to write. My first collaboration ever, and it turned out quite nicely! Chimpazilla actually had a slightly different interpretation in mind when she sent in her first shot at the arrangement, but after some creative shenanigans, it turned out to be this crazy dance/big beat/electronica remix with a hint of glitch and old school 80's/90's! I got some pretty hefty influence from WillRock's insane solos and zircon's "Daft Drafts" OC ReMix.

We took turns working on and refining both the arrangement and the mixing, learning about each other's working style, and we're quite satisfied with the result! Thanks for being a great partner! =D"

I actually could have seen more glitch and modernization on the drums giving this a little more edge, but those synth leads really take the spotlight and kinda run with it, instead. Definite WillRock influence, especially when things bust out at 2'56"; it's funny that timaeus singles out the 80's & 90's, because from an actual arrangement perspective, this reminds me more of the 1970's in terms of the overall groove & funky bass. The synths and production place it more firmly in the modern era, but I was tappin' my head and half-expecting a Donna Summer vocal to pop up at any moment. I love the wind effects here; consistent and tasetfully applied, echoing the mix title and giving the whole thing a wider atmosphere. Sweet collab from Chimpazilla & timaeus222 that's easy to like, covers some new source material, and plays to their respective strengths - great stuff!
