Two more to go! Winning SOME sort of award for "Mix Title Most Closely Resembling a Star Trek Film," is this heavy-hitting jam from "The SnuggleMen" - and in this case, snuggling alone *IS* good enough:
"A trans-continental collaborative project involving the massive number of four musicians, with three different accents, from as many as two sides of the Atlantic, the SnuggleMen (briefly known as the far catchier CarboSnappleDrive_CatM, until a cease-and-desist order informed us that the name already belonged to a japanese bossa-nova-core band) find their origin in Snappleman's desire to make people suffer in the name of awesome music. Starting with a balls-to-the-wall, high-energy take on an already rocking source track, Andreas first brought in Omigadrive to proggify it into almost six minutes of insanity (with polyrhythms). Then, with only two weeks left until the deadline and plenty of recording to do, CarboHydroM and Wild_Cat were summoned. The former to finish the arrangement and duel Omigadrive on guitar, the latter to provide a bass line for them all to rock on.
Amidst bleeding fingers, dwindling caffeine supplies and silenced cries for mercy (because, as Danny Trejo would one day quote him, "Snappleman don't slow down"), the musicians died and were reborn as the SnuggleMen, ruthless predatory creatures with a keen instinct for cheating, punching in, and ultimately delivering a shell-kicking piece of rock that, as far as we know, no turtle has headbanged to before."
I don't know that I can match, much less expand on, such an eloquent & playful mix description. I'mma let Kyle continue:
"YOU ARE NOT PREPARED. That’s been the SnuggleMen mantra leading up to the release of Shell Shocked, and I think it’s fitting, because YOU AREN’T. SnappleMan handled the bulk of the arrangement duties, while CarboHydroM and Omigadrive took on the face-melting guitar noodling, and Wild_Cat shreds the bass. The result? This team of metal remix veterans took “Starbase” and cranked the levels of cowabunga right into the stratosphere and beyond, to where no turtle has gone before!"
Again, I think all salient detail has been conveyed. This is a crack team of experts, helmed my a man so widely feared and respected, he rocks a pseudonym that advertises tea and juice products. Because he CAN, and it doesn't matter. Andreas knocked it out of the park and basically served as the mix's Leonardo - although I always felt like Donatello was the actual problem solver, the Iron Man to Leo's Captain America. Nice integration of themes, crazy drum work, lots of twists and turns, exceptional musicianship, and a serious wallop of guitar-based mayhem. Lest you think it's all super-serious and ultra-focused and what not, SnappleMan had the following late-breaking quote to add JUST for this writeup:
"16:33] <+snappleman> dave for the snugglemen track take this random quote I just typed into a conversation with Tony - "Andreas Kotsamanidis 4:32 pm
[16:33] <+snappleman> my ass is getting so prog about farting
[16:33] <+snappleman> timbres and stinks that you wouldn't think a human ass could produce"
...and there it is. One reads such words and what can one say but "SnappleMan"; his fellow SnuggleMen definitely added a dimension to this arrangement, and the end result is a musical tour de force, with spot-on performances and tireless energy. Congrats to SnappleMan, Omigadrive, CarboHydroM and Wild_Cat for a memorably over-the-top contribution to Shell Shocked!!

Here is a rock medley that manages to be both fun, and hardcore. Encouraging, and intimidating. Exciting, and intense. You get the idea, right? I would really love to see this live mainly to see all the solos performed in person.

There are so many good tracks on this album. Every one seems to stand out -- and this one has snuggles~ :3
I love the inclusion of Tournament Fighters. Melded with Starbase, it's just such an enjoyable mix.

Crazy arrangement going on, fellas! Enjoyed hearing some Tournament Fighter tracks make an appearance in the ReMix, which really sounds cool when put together with Star Base. Also loving the Star Trek homage title. Pretty awesome to hear a collab with the group making up Snugglemen, especially Snappleman and CarboHydroM. Much respect for the work here, guys. Well done.

Despite popular belief (since im a guitar player) I didn't do much guitar on this, just some solo trade offs. All other guitar is carbo which deserves to be known since he knocked it out of the park. I did play all the keyboards though since I had just got myself a new synth at the time and well... there you have it.
Also until you record a snappleman arrangement, you have no idea how nuts he is. Shit was haaaaard!
