ReMix:Castlevania: Bloodlines "Find Me" 3:30

Arranging the music of one song...

"Mysterious Curse (Password BGM)"

Primary Game: Castlevania: Bloodlines (Konami , 1994, GEN), music by Michiru Yamane

You want some Bloodlines? We'll give you some Bloodlines, alright... Big Mak Eightman (https://soundcloud.com/mak-eightman) sends us an evil, twisted, dark metal romp from Vampire Variations II:

"Here is another project and another short source - another attempt to make something nice."

AND a short submission email, too :) A chilling, detuned music box starts us off, some nice beats get layered in along with strings, and then the SHRED OF DREAD enters circa 0'32". It's mostly an intense chugfest from there on out, but I like that Max brings back the disturbed, "laughing-to-myself-in-the-corner-hysterically" ambiance of the intro towards the end. DarkeSword writes:

"Sounds pretty kickass to me. Vinnie's source breakdown helps; good expansion of a short source tune. Nice breakdowns with the filtered percussion. I like it."

Judges were a little divided as some felt the source usage was iffy (Palpable's breakdown helped) and others thought the production was a little TOO over the top, but Fishy cast the final vote:

"Hmm, tricky one. The rhythm guitar sound is great but that lead is so abrasive. It's extremely pumped on the compression but that's not exactly uncommon for the style. Vinnie's breakdown checks out and I don't really think there are any dealbreakers in the production."

We've gotten some pieces from Mak that we DID feel went too far overboard with the mastering & production, but in this case I can see why the majority sentiment went the other way, especially considering the arrangement plays the loud-soft game rather well and has extended portions that are rather subtle & atmospheric. Bottom line? Mak delivers the chugs but puts them in a compelling, frightening context that makes for great nightmare material, or a metal-themed Halloween party, take your pick!

I dunno what the vocals are saying at 1:22, and a little much fuzz (read: 3000Hz) on the rhythm guitar, but other than that this is some good horror-like metal.

I wonder.. Vocals at 1:22?? Vocals??

Yeaaah, kickin' :3

I'd also add this to my Quake playlist. Fantastic horror atmosphere for mowing down demons.

If I'm going to enjoy a metal mix, it has to be one hell of a track. There are very few that fit my specific criteria, but this is definitely one of them. It's hard hitting, the guitar at 2:40min is goosebump worthy and it ends before it gets repetitive and overindulgent It's full, it's powerful, and it has been on repeat. I really, really enjoyed this one.

A little repetitive and metal-tastic for my tastes-- HOWEVER. The creepy bits are so creepy that the wild, unkept guitar serves as good shock value and the finished product kind of rocks.

I didn't even think of this as metal until you mentioned it. Sure, it has the power guitar, but it's so melodic and with so many other (very cool) elements, that it's really nothing like what I think of as metal.

The "dark metal romp" thing kinda gave it away : Anyways, I figure the drums sound pretty metal. =P

While metal has never been my favorite style, this mix pulled it off nicely.

Of course, this being Castlevania, I expect metal, so this is somewhat less metal just by comparison.

I don't mind not being able to understand the voices--I think that's the point--but the sibilants are a little harsh. Otherwise, yeah, a little dirty, but that's par for the course. The second half is just lovely.

Music box with all the creepiness you could want was the kind of start I love in mixes such as this one. While the metallistic chugs of the guitars rock on, there is still a dark, evil undertone that add character to the mix, and I like that. There really isn't much I can say because a mix like this can make me sum up my feelings pretty quickly, but I can say that I believe this to be my favorite Mak ReMix to date. Keep it up, fella.

I am very fond of the style Mak does. Mixing creepy synths and explosive metal can be quite hard, and even if the mix is very hot, I think it really works well on the (short) source. Always loved the breakdown/fill/solo section near the end! :)
