Pumpkin King (Joe Dumpe) follows up his sweet Sonic 2 solo piano late 2013 debut with another dose of the ivories, this time focusing his attention on Skyward Sword and other Zelda games with a beautiful, delicate arrangement:

"This is a piano arrangement/medley for multiple games in the Legend of Zelda franchise. It starts with the Skyward Sword theme from Skyward Sword, transitions into the "Lost Woods" theme from Ocarina of Time, then to "Song of Healing" from Majora's Mask. It then repeats the same pattern, though with more diversity and dynamics, for a proper build-up where it finally concludes with the Skyward Sword theme.

I started working on this because when I was learning some of the Zelda songs, I realized how similar they all sounded. A lot of the songs play in the same key. So I thought it would be cool to blend them together into one song, rather than having it sound strictly like a piano medley.

This is version 1, because I plan on doing different versions with different songs from the Zelda franchise. There are more songs that sound very similar and I want to do the same thing like I did with this version. I used Logic Pro as my DAW. I used the Galaxy Vintage D library for the piano sound."

Kudos on incorporating multiple themes so cohesively; Vig summed up my own reaction rather concisely:

"As far as piano mixes go, this is definitely one of the more complete and well-conceived. The arrangements are thoughtful and creative, and the overall progression of the track sounds like you thought about it rather than just noodling for a few minutes. Well done."

For any arrangement incorporating multiple themes, we do require that some degree of connective tissue & consideration be implemented regarding transition/integration, but our threshold for that is considerably below what Joe's accomplished here, where the component themes become one gorgeous & continuous whole. Judges had some constructuve criticism in terms of dynamic contrast, and I think some EQ could have crispened/sharpened things up a bit and also helped with that, but everyone agreed that the production didn't stand in the way or noticeably detract from an excellent solo piano arrangement. Really, really glad to see Joe submit another piece, which I'd say is even better than his debut, and help continue to proudly represent solo piano arrangements on OCR!!

My word... I haven't been on OCR for a while, and I come back to browse and find THIS waiting for me. You know that thing in cartoons and animations where if someone sees something amazingly beautiful, a single tear will come to their eye? Yeah. That ACTUALLY happened to me, at about 3:04. And no, I am not joking or exaggerating. I seriously haven't liked a mix this much since Theophany's "Time's End" album.

Wonderful piano work here, it's always pretty sweet to hear multiple themes connected together in such a way, and it makes me interested to hear the following versions to come. Everything everyone has already said, I pretty much agree with. This is an improvement to your debut mix, and while there are still a few things that one could nitpick here, none of it really hurts the mix that much that you wouldn't enjoy it. Good stuff, man!

Thanks for accepting this! Really appreciate it guys!

If I were to change one thing, it would be with the tone of the piano. I always use the Galaxy Vintage D sample library, and for this arrangement I remember I wanted it to sound a bit warm. Rather than bright.

You know, I'd love to try out a different sample library sometime haha.

How about TruePianos? ;)

The Skyward Sword theme is clever but never touched my soul like other Zelda music, but this is a masterfully played and very pretty rendition. Honestly, it still feels a little medley-ish to my ears, but that hardly detracts from such a love piece. Makes me wish I had the time to join this piano quest. :)
