Arranging the music of one song...
"A-Type (Korobeiniki)"
Primary Game: Tetris (Nintendo , 1989, GB), music by Hirokazu TanakaPosted 2014-07-31, evaluated by djpretzel
How to end a mixflood from an album dedicated to the Nintendo Game Boy... do you really have to ask? No, you don't really have to ask. The entire world became addicted to Tetris thanks to Nintendo's medium-defining handheld hardware, and the source tune in question is synonymous with VGM while actually being adapted from a previously obscure (to the vast majority of the human race) Russian folk song. I'd like to quote now, from the lyrics to the original "Korobeiniki":
"I will, I will go out into the tall rye,
I will wait there till the night comes,
Once I see the dark-eyed lass,
I will showcase all my goods."
A single word comes to mind, and that word is sexy - you showcase those goods, sir. Strader strades:
"Sir_NutS lives on an island, but rocks out like he's the king of a city. Or even a country. He was complaining about the album not having a Tetris remix, probably because he thought I would do it, and the thought crossed my mind... but no, I imagined it as a Sir_NutS piece, and I simply had to pull out every move in the book to persuade him that it was a good idea to do it. In the end, he offered to do it in return for a Steam game, but changed his mind... then I got him the game anyway. Then he felt like he had to do it! Such trickery! But the song is amazing, a Sir_NutS classic, and I hope he feels as good about it as I do and surely other listeners of the world who will love this song."
Mr. Molina ALSO has a baller Castlevania II track on the album (with Jivemaster, as Helicopter Knife Fight) that you should check out, so I suppose you could say that Legacy has really got some nuts. Yep. He writes:
"Tetris was probably the first game I ever played on a Game Boy and it's basically synonymous with Game Boy. This project needed a Tetris remix, and so I tackled it. Because Brandon made me do it."
There are worse reasons to do things... probably. A GB tribute album without a Tetris mix would indeed have seemed incomplete, and THIS one's even vaguely relevant to current events RE: unrest in the Ukraine with its mix title. Let the punnery not suggest a trivializing of the VERY real situation on the ground; laughter & music are cures to hatred & conflict, and always have been. Special thanks/props go to OCR old-schooler F4T4L_3RR0R for coming up with the mix's title! /rimshot. Molina hits it hard with an EDM treatment of the quite-familiar melody, clocking in under three minutes & playing it relatively safe, but certainly bringing the electro bass and hard angles, with BIG DRUMS @ 2'09". Strong stuff that does what it wants and doesn't stretch things out, lending an electronic, unrelenting pulse to the folk tune that became a VGM superstar. Enjoy, and please help spread the news about Legacy: Game Boy 25th Anniversary!!

The bass is a great foundation for the rest of the track. When things shift, the sidechained synth does a nice job too. I like the force behind the 2:08 section; nice and solid. Good mix.

In soviet Russia, music arranges you.
But Soviet Russia doesn't exist nowdays Anyways, this is so damn cool, certainly the most hard-hitting Tetris ReMix ever. And this is also my most favorite mix from the album. Big beats, funky bass synth, along with easily recognizable melody make this track very enjoyable. Love the mix title as well. Great work, Mr. Molina!

Funky Tetris! It gives... a smile! :3
Nice effects. Great kickoff at 1:07. Transition at 1:39 is pretty cool too, and the beat to the end.

Well, you'd be glad to know that it actually goes somewhere more than trance. Because it's not trance.Anyhoo, I know this mix is a bit vanilla, but it's a vanilla mix I'm pretty happy with, given the limitations I had. I'm glad some people enjoyed it.
Yup, it's a lil electro-house-like too. But yeah, overall, I did like it.

I guess I would have liked it to go somewhere more than primarily trance/dance, but that aside, good production, energy, and groove.

I wouldn't say it's an especially creative ReMix of an oft-played tune (I mean, not everything can be Tetris Plays You!) but it's punchy enough to stand on its own. A good thumping drum helps out with that, particularly during 2:09, which sounds kind of awesome.

This is my favorite track on the album. I particularly like the use of the block rotation SFX. My only complaint is that I think the song is too short.

Heh, nice mix title. Sounds like you used some SFX, which was nice, since it was done in a tasteful way, and this is probably one of the harder hitting Tetris mixes I've heard, something I also have to smile at. Great arrangement.

Great remix, and getting it done in such a short space of time. NutS certainly has a pair.
