Modern EDM, seamlessly integrated orchestral textures, & chopped vocals highlight this arrangement from Deia, with formidable production assistance from OA, off Balance and Ruin. The OCR power-couple really killed it on this ReMix, putting Deia's vocals to excellent use, bringing the vision to life with crisp mixing & just the right amount of fx/tweaking, and concluding with a nice layered vocal fugue of sorts. Deia writes:
"The inspiration I had for "Courage ~ Failure ~ Rosebud" comes from Locke's scenario; I always admired Locke's courage to overcome his doubts, freeing and protecting Celes despite her being a former high ranking member of the Empire. With a lot of encouragement from Andrew, I was able to take on a stronger role in arranging the track, and tried to add a lot of variation to the melody lines and placements while still keeping familiar with the source. What I find amusing is my original idea is what ended up becoming the outtro to the track, and is my favorite section of the song, with the glitch section Andrew created being a very close second. The title is a direct reference to the password options you have to be able to access the secret passage to the rich man's home. A huge thanks to OA who worked so patiently with me and added his own arrangement ideas and production to the mix to make it sound great! Also, thank you to Mr. Aversa for being patient and giving me the chance to be on the Balance and Ruin album!"
OA adds:
"I really enjoyed playing with the vocals and making some crazy sliced phrases. Deia let me have a lot of free reign on her arrangement to do some coolness, and I am excited to work with her on some new songs! ^________________^"
This is a really great formula/approach for these two artists & co-habitators; KEEP DOING IT THIS WAY!!! ...of course, everyone should always feel free to do what's right for them and what's right for the mix, but still, I'd love to hear future collaborations in this vein :) Arrangement is fairly liberal, and focuses far more on the first half of the melodic phrase than the second, declining portion, but I'd say the source is relatively easy to spot. Palpable, who's leaving for Vietnam TODAY to teach English for a year, writes:
"This is such a jam: creepy Danny Elfman instrumentation blasted with dubstep beats, pulled aloft by haunting vocals that are sufficiently glitched. Even though this is more a remix in the traditional sense than a melody-focused song, it's an instantly memorable arrangement due to the sheer amount of hooks and production ear candy. How can you not love the acapella ending too?"
Well said; great work from DA & OA that made for a dark, sweet treat on B&R!!

Oh my heavens, I loved this remix!!!! What a unique take and the cut/abrupt/chopped vocals end up being like their own instrument! I love the simplicity and power of the lyrics as well, with their subtle changes. The drop out of parts of the soundscape at certain sections, the changeover 1:15-1:37 (wow!), and the way the mix builds and then hits that FANTASTIC, multi-layered ending.... WOW! Everyone involved in this mix needs to take a bow - I loved it!!!

Okay, those vocal effects got 100% of my attention when I first heard this back when BnR got released. Between the dark and powerful arrangement being coupled with the vocals, and then having those vocals getting mixed up themselves, this is an awesome ReMix that I've been listening to for a while now, and will continue to enjoy for a long time now. Deia, OA, bravo!

Such a cool use of vocals! The piano cameo for Terra's Theme was another bit of brilliance. The whole track exudes an ominous, introspective vibe that really gets in my head. Excellent.

Aww yeah, one of my favorite BnR tracks got posted! Great work, you two!

This was way too enjoyable all the way through. Loved the stutters and vocoding (?).
