While this is his first mixpost on OCR, George R. Powell (www.georgerpowell.com) has been doing game arrangements for a long while, usually under the name "Setu Firestorm" - of this delicate, orchestral arrangement from Majora's Mask, he writes:
"My fans had asked me for some time to compose a rendition of the "Song of Healing" from Majora's Mask, since I actually became fairly well-known because of my Legend of Zelda rendition pieces over the years, and my scoring of the Hero of Time film by BMB Finishes. Having never really played Majora's Mask myself, I hadn't heard the "Song of Healing" until I looked it up. As soon as I heard Kondo's original version, I knew it was something I had to do."
While the levels are a bit low and you might wanna turn your headphones up, this peaceful ReMix almost has a Spielbergian quality to it, conjuring the intro to 80's films where we hone in from a crane shot on a small, single-family suburban home on a quiet, idyllic cul-de-sac. Lots of lower-dynamic strings, bells, and some choral bits later on - it's not a smorgasbord of exposed, super high-quality samples or flamboyant articulations, but it doesn't need to be; the arrangement is more about atmosphere/tone than individual part-writing. Palpable writes:
"This is the first track I've heard from George, and it's an excellent debut. An original intro segues perfectly into the Song of Healing, which starts off conservatively in terms of how the source melodies are used, but has a gentleness about it that sets it apart from the N64 music. It builds nicely into a film score grandeur, and ends on a lullaby rendition of the B section. Nothing too drastic, but definitely delivers."
Agreed; there's definitely a dynamic payoff, and while I don't necessarily think grandeur per se is expressed, it's nice to have a peaceful piece that still goes places & has an agenda. This is a strong, interpretive, and pleasant debut that shows us what George can do - hope to hear more, and definitely be sure to check out the rest of his work when you get a chance!

This is a lovely arrangement of a powerful song. It gave me an "everything's going to be okay" vibe rather than the buckets of mystery I felt from the original source, which was a pleasant change of pace. My only real sticking point would be the vocals that came in at 1:36 as they sounded a bit fake or staccato to my ears. But the overall sound? Lovely indeed.

In terms of music being done as artfully as possible, this is fantastic. This really would seem at home in a revision of Majora's Mask or even a polished up soundtrack. Wonderful arrangement and a great sound. Solid debut, man,

To be honest, I wasn't interested for the first minute or so during the part where it was mentioned to be "Spielbergian", but for the rest of the track, I was completely hooked. This sounds like the song of healing you would hear if Nintendo ever makes a 3D version of Majora's mask. I appreciate the subtle changes the remixer made in this mix, I loved the choir, overall I liked everything about it.

Man, I love the subtle harp, glock, and bass pizzicato in this that shows up every now and then. It adds that light delicate touch to a relaxing arrangement that makes good use of swells and trebly instruments. Great dynamics, too. Quiet when it matters, and loud when it really needs to hit you in the feels.
