It might just be the proximity to Christmas, but this source really reminds me of the slower theme from A Christmas Story... change a few notes here and there, and I think you've got it. Ahhh crap... I just checked, and it turns out I had the same exact observation back in 2003 (!) - do this long enough and your brain gets fried :) I'm gonna let DDRKirby(ISQ) do the talking in describing his pleasant, intricately chiptuneriffic arrangement:
"My last submitted mix was from my Love Everlasting album, a tribute to Aivi & surasshu's The Black Box. This song is another track from Love Everlasting, this time a remix of "Mabe Village."
This song was a BLAST to make, and a perfect way to cap off my present to Aivi & surasshu. As I mentioned last time around, I used a 3-1-2-6-5 sequence throughout my album as a sort of recurring motif, and it was at the end of the penultimate song, "Thank You" (a remix of "Exosphere"), that I finally realized that the first three notes of that matched the beginning of "Mabe Village!" So that provided a perfect way for me to segue into "Play with Me," a remix inspired by a remix.
After writing the intro for this song, I had the idea that since this was the final, "bonus" track of the album, I would make it a throwback to the title track of the album, "Love Everlasting," which was my last submission. So the resemblance in style and structure to that song is very much intentional. I should also note that the little variation on the melody at 2:03 is taken from Aivi & surasshu's work, so there's all sorts of little references going on here, really. I decided at 2:13 that I was going into a sort of "NES racing game" vibe with the chugging bassline, and so, as I was ending the melody line there, I just really couldn't help but put in the "doo... doo... doo... DEE~T" for fun. xD Wanted to give one last shoutout to Aivi & surasshu -- this remix would not exist if not for their wonderful collaboration on The Black Box!"
Palpable had this to say:
"Timmie is fast becoming one of those guys you can count on for a great remix - he always makes his music sound easy. But that's not to say there wasn't a whole lot of love put into this 9-bit take on the classic GB tune, because it's obvious there was. The intro starts off almost completely like the original - dry and march-like - before transitioning into some big pads and 'verb and getting fancy with the syncopation. From there, it becomes a lot more propulsive and skittish, almost like a drum 'n' bass song with everything bitcrushed down. The chorus goes to half-speed for a big, bright effect that's a nice contrast to the verse. Timmie did quite a lot with one of the simpler songs from the game."
Ditto all that; REALLY picks up, takes off, and spirals all around the room, like when you let go of a balloon you just untied, except far more gracefully, and without sounding like flatulence. Man, that analogy was really doomed from the beginning... at any rate, this ReMix is great in all the ways DDRKirby(ISQ)'s other mixes are also great (you SHOULD check them all out), with the salient characteristic of starting off simply and then ramping up the complexity over time. Excellent stuff!

The track has a huge Kirby infuence (sounds, composition) and it's super fun. The chiptune is well used but the overall mix lacks in the bass department IMO. It was quite simple but enjoyable. Not much to add -- nice job!

Classic DDRK stuff - inspiring upbeat electronica with a healthy dose of chips thrown in. I don't have much to say, actually - it's simply awesome in all ways. Very nice work!

This entire song reminds me of The Glory Days-- and seeing as that's one of the greatest works from Big Giant Circles, I'm confident in saying that this is hyper cool rad good yes indeed music. Can't get enough of those bright, fun rhythms!

Nicely done! Very upbeat, and while remaining faithful to the original it includes a lot of elements that link to other games. Downloaded for future listening.

I just knew I heard all sorts of hints of Lonely Rolling Star in this mix, and lo and behold, when I follow the album link I see a remix of that very song!
I love the Katamari influences here.

Bubbly, happy, catchy and filled with Kirby-esque nods. Totally digging this.
