I'd like to take a quick second on this holiday to express my personal admiration and respect for Martin Luther King, Jr.; the events of 2014 are still very much with us, here in the USA, but both his message & his methods are global and timeless. His dream hasn't come true yet, and I think some of us were a little shocked last year at how far away it remains. The wisdom of his approach to opposing persecution - as a group, but also the individual persecution he faced, from our own government - has not diminished with the passing of time, the development of new technology, or any cultural changes that have occurred. There's a slogan that wisely asks us to "Make Every Day Earth Day!" - I think you can say the same thing about MLK; we need to keep his words closer to us.

HeavenWraith (Antanas Palaitis) debuted last year with an awesome hard rock ReMix of Metal Slug 4, and now returns with some rock/metal MMX action that DusK helped out with:

"This remix was done for the Remixing with the Stars contest and, obviously, there were two people working on this, me and DusK. DusK contributed in verbal form (no direct recording, mixing, composing, just giving advice).

I've (hopefully) refined the mixing of this piece while trying to stay as close to my original arrangement as possible. Some changes were inevitable, but otherwise I think I did a pretty good job regarding that. Especially considering that all my guitar recordings for this song were low-pass-filtered for some silly reason, haha. Correcting past mistakes, as usual. Now with less snare! I kind of understand what Larry wants me to do with the transition between the two themes, however I feel that something fast and not pace-breaking would be more loyal to the original idea I had for this remix back in 2012. I sure hope this new rendition doesn't tick anyone off too much!"

DarkeSword writes:

"The lead starts losing me a bit once you go into Metal Man's theme, but it's not too much of a dealbreaker. Performances are killer and it's a great arrangement. Something about the soundscape reminds me of good Japanese doujin rock. Great stuff."

Yeah, I hear that too. Soloing/wankery in the third minute is full of divebombs and what not; LOTS of fun. Liontamer writes:

"The balance and tone of everything was substantially improved, and even the really weak transition from before was redone to NOT break the flow of the piece. There were still some minor issues like the drum shots sounding too similar/machine-gun-ish in intensity for some periods of time, but the sum total of the changes definitely got this where it needed to be. Major props on your persistence, Anthony! That kind of determination is what will make you a cut above the rest."

Glad the artist agreed to resub; judges were unanimous in their original comments surrounding a problematic snare drum that was keeping the mix from being all it could be, so it's also nice when the feedback is clear & consistent. Great, high-energy stuff from HW that DOES have sort of a doujin-rock vibe, really digs in deep with the guitar soloing towards the end, and follows up his strong debut from last year!

The guitars were a little too high-mixed to my ear -- the mix too, it lacked in the bass department -- but it's a damn nice arrangement. The 80's synths added a lot to it. If the mixing could be improved a little, that'd be a very awesome track -- still is! :D

This is what I love to hear in thoroughly rocking guitar work. Good times are had at 2:19, which makes me real happy and no mistake. The Intergalactic Dictatorship has arrived, and I like it.

Nice, man. Some hot rock is always welcomed to hear, and while I was digging Boomer's sections more, I do have to say that I enjoyed this arrangement. Not bad.

Am the only run who thinks of Homestar Runner/Strong Bad's 'Thy Dungeonman' series...(funny song, good work!)

EDIT: Woops, that's for the Eye of the Beholder song, not this. This is some good hard rockin' tho'.

Nice! Mad improvements over the original! That's a lot of hard work that really paid off.

ReMixing With the Stars will be returning next month! Anyone who could use a leg up getting their mix quality up to this level, or is willing to help others do so, keep an eye out!

(Oh, and I'm fixing all my old dead links now.)
