Arranging the music of one song...
"Rockface Rumble"
Primary Game: Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! (Nintendo , 1996, SNES), music by David Wise, Eveline NovakovicPosted 2015-01-22, evaluated by the judges panel
Did someone say MAGFEST?? Tis the season, and we'll see you there if you're going!! Newcomer Paul Hadame (real name Aymeric Velozzo, whose other music we recommend you check out on SoundCloud) gives us a sweet DnB take on "Rockface Rumble" from DKC3:
"I'm a French producer/composer of music electronic. I contact you because I would like have my last remix on OC ReMix. It's a remix of Donkey Kong Country 3 (SNES). But all people (1988 minimum) know this track. :) Enjoy. :)"
Judges were a little torn on this one, as some found the amount of repetition to be problematic, but ultimately those in favor narrowly prevailed; Palpable writes:
"A lot of my remixes are deconstructive, and as such, I really dig this style, especially when it's this polished. Aymeric made smart use of the original melodies, and dare I say, came up with something that is a bit more cohesive than the original source song! Really, the only complaint I have is that there is some repetition. It's not entire copy/pasted sections, but many of the elements are reused. A little more creativity and variety would have made this a 10/10 remix in my book; as it stands, it's a pass."
Beatdrop adds:
"My initial impression was to vote for resubmit, but having listened for a fourth and fifth time, I honestly can't find enough wrong to lean that way anymore. The arrangement is stellar; the original song is entirely transformed. Listening to the source, I wouldn’t have thought it would translate well into DnB, but this takes the delicious cake. I especially love the way you worked in some of the sounds from the original version, like the guitar-ish lead at 2:11, while still making them fit right in."
For my own money, this does push the boundaries of repetition, and a little bit more could have been done to vary things up & branch out, but the bones of the arrangement are solid, and the meaty soundscape is satisfying. Invigorating, accessible, and creative, this is a fun debut - hope to hear more from Paul Hadame in the future!

This starts out catchy and energetic, and then pans back a bit and remains comfortably on cruise control. I'd probably let this sit on repeat once or twice before wanting something with a bit more progression and change-up throughout.

Wow, the intro didn't prepare me for this lol! I think I'm hearing some glitches/pops here and there. The groove is cool, and some elements are interesting, but this remix doesn't sound too good to me. It's quite repetitive and stays at the same level of intensity once the intro is over. The ending was abrupt too. Not a fan, sorry.

I think I'm with the judges on this one. It's a solid, smooth tune for sure, but you've got to really appreciate the groove for this ReMix to stay interesting from start to finish.

Wow this is LOUD, and it's only the
youtube video. The MP3 is probably louder.
Yeah, I see your repetition crits, and I raise you some resonance
and click/pop crits!
Not bad. Generally produced well, and it has a likable flair to
it. Does feel pretty copy-pasta and occasionally sparse, but
what's there slightly edges by IMO.

Any sort of repetition was drowned out of my mind by the terrific work in taking this source and turning it into a DnB jam. And that section with the original guitar at 2:11, damn, loving that. The beat, the energy, the recognizably of the source and the ability to make it something cool, all there. Judges may have been split, but I would have to say all the positives outweighed any negatives in the writing or production for me. Great stuff, man.

Trying my best to put my (obvious) DKC3 bias aside, I found this to be an excellent remix and I'm very glad it got posted! You've got a very high quality sound pallet that would sound right at home in a modern-day recreation of the OST, and the DB elements are handled very adeptly and fit right into place. Repetition doesn't bother me at all, because there's a lot of small details that help progress this along and prevent it from becoming stale.
Congratulations on getting this posted! Really looking forward to more from you.

This may be repetitive, but it's still a very enjoyable 6 minutes of music. I could easily put this on repeat while I'm writing.
