Been awhile! This is our third posted ReMix from Showroom Dummy (Ralf Schneider), who debuted back in 2009 and hit us up last December with some Xenophobia action. This time he takes on MM4 with a tasty EDM/house track that gets progressively interpretive and has a nice mix of textures:

"My direction with this mix was to make funky house. I played a lot of melodies of the song on my keyboard, so there is little copy-paste including bassline and the others. :D My mission was to make a song more complex with time, so after first section it breaks time signatures, extending phrases, and many solos. I always want to surprise with the arrangements I make, but I keep the chiptune element in all my work. My favorite is the bassline I put much work in! I hope you enjoy. :) Sorry for any bad English, it's translated."

Sounds pretty good to me - his English AND the mix. Introing with isolated EP chords that have a nice pitch slide-off on the release, things build from there, as chip leads & chord hits blend with a funky electro bass & bells/EPs. At 1'39" syncopation gets cray-cray in all the right ways, defying four-on-the-floor rhythmic simplicity for some interesting groove changeups. zykO writes:

"this is brilliant; one of the coolest things i've heard in a long, long time. i'm a huge fan of this sort of progressive arrangement and it showcases your superb ear. this is a fresh take on skull man; it takes the original source's strength (it's energetic chord progression and syncopated melody) and uses it to explore novel ways of presenting the same few bars of the original in a constantly changing landscape. it doesn't rely on the inherent rhythmic quality of the original as do many skull man remixes (so easily fashioned into a latin groove) and by the time we are near the end of the track, we completely forget how it started, that it started with a totally straight cover shot."

Precisely; I love that zykO's been judging a bit lately because he often makes the specific point that I want to make, or should be making, so I don't have to :) Great stuff from Ralf that only gets better & more interesting as it progresses!

Nice groovy remix. The intro is nice -- the lo-fi samples do their work with the chiptune. Less a fan of the later synths. That arrangement didn't do much for me, it was really simple and expected. Nice work though!

Nice take on an original track I wouldn't normally listen to. :) (EDIT - The original, not your version. Yours is great. :P)

The groove beginning at 0:48 is fantastic! :D And it only gets better at 1:05. Groovy melody. ^_^

I think Clem pretty much nailed it calling this "deceptively simplistic". Arrangement-wise this is not your run-of-the-mill house track. It starts off pretty basic and sparse, with a thin kick, simple bass, and a rather nasal lead (like Clem mentioned), but compositionally this actually deserves repeat listens. If not for the simple tones and the slightly unusual structure, I think this would have been closer to a DP.

Very funky and danceable......or at least enough to get some good tapping vibes going on. Had to listen to this several times because I would just let the music go without thinking about it too much, and before I knew it, it was over. When a ReMix leaves you wanting more so that you replay, typically it's a good thing. Great ReMix, fella. Glad to hear Skull Man get this kind of work done to his theme.

Another PRC track (PRC278, http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC278)which results in an OC Remix. Always good to see that, and it wasn't even the winning track. Great work.

Great track! The electric piano blends really well with the chip elements. Nice work.
