Leandro Abreu took on "Dire, Dire Docks" for Dwelling of Duels: Water Month (May 2014), and the result is this crunchy, crisp, & clean rock arrangement that builds nicely in intensity, beginning as a conservative, mellow take on EP (with some nicely panned atmospheric FX) and culminating in a wall-of-rock with searing guitar leads. Leandro always delivers when it comes to instrumental performances, with each component living & breathing, and that becomes increasingly relevant as this mix progresses. Emunator writes:
"Hah, this is killer! It starts off in similar fashion to many of Leandro's other remixes - very true to the source, but with some sonic embellishments that keep things interesting nonetheless. I loved the tone of the electric piano, particularly. However, the fun really starts when the guitar busts out into solo mode around the halfway point. I was getting some serious Freebird and Sultans of Swing (Dire, Dire Straits?) vibes from your guitar solo, that was truly excellent. Despite a humble, straightforward start, this track really blooms into something special by the time it's done."
"Dire, Dire Straits" is a mix title that does NEED to happen at some point - too good! Wes covered the gist; dynamically, this is a mix that opens up over time & metamorphosizes into a face-melting butterfly by the end. If you know & love Abreu's other arrangements, this mix might still surprise you a bit just for the amount of development, and if you don't, this is a great introduction to his other work, which has all been excellent. Dive in, get wet, cool off, & enjoy!

Ah, yes, love the Rhodes piano work done here, and that guitar playing was so good! To be fair, the original Dire Docks tune and many mixes that come from it are beautiful pieces, but I think I truly enjoy more rock-out style versions of it like this one where the guitar is played at a higher tone with a more playful and enthusiastic speed. Awesome solo, really fun arrangement and a slightly harder style of Dire Docks that is really up my alley, I can't give this anything less than five outta five stars. Damn fine stuff, fella!

Interesting take on the original. The mellow organ and guitars
were a nice idea. The sound design/ear candy added a lot to the
first parts. Love when the mix gets more intense -- excellent
guitar work! The final part really was a highlight to me --
excellent job on this part. The ending was a little abrupt, but
wasn't problematic. Solid production, nice arrangement, nice job!

Love the tone. Both the smooth ride of the Rhodes and the
plucky twang from guitars (a little bridge-play in there?)
I do like the whole progression of the track, but I could've
taken the first half extended out all the way to the end.
The soloing was just fine, but that vibe in the beginning
was really pulled me in. But no matter, nice work Leandro!

Love it! I really like the progression from pretty mellow to
wailing guitars by the end. The overall arrangement repeats
throughout while ramping it up which I can appreciate. The only
real issue I heard was the hard guitar plucks in the beginning
needed some more compression on them because they were a bit
jarring; sounded like your were trying to rip the strings out of
the guitar, but that was like two notes, so by no means was that
a big issue Great work!

Arrangement is really nice, but what really takes it to the next level is the tones! Both the Rhodes and the guitar sound fantastic, as is the guitar solo.

Oh man, that Rhodes piano at the beginning is gorgeous! Great transition with the guitar as well.
