ansgaros (Anssi Jääskeläinen) debuted on OCR back in 2012 with an epic MMX3 ReMix that was featured on Maverick Rising - good way to start the show :) Albums often bring in some new faces, but sometimes we don't see individual follow-up submissions, which makes Larry Oji cry. It's true. This (happily) isn't one of those times, though, as the artist sends in a sweet sophomore mixpost in the form of a high-octane, briskly-paced metal arrangement of Ys III (NES) - Anssi writes:
"My entry for Dwelling of Duels MAGFest month. Instead of my usual style of medleys, I wanted to make something shorter, simpler, and definitely something that wasn't a medley. This is one song (out of a hundred, at least) that I've wanted to do for a long time now. Originally, I thought this would be a calmer song throughout, like how it starts out, but I just couldn't help myself and ended up including blast beats and all that sweet stuff. And it works."
OA writes:
"easy DP, great arrangement of the source, really solid metal production, and superclean playing. A++ would DP again!"
That's DP for "Direct Post," lest you misintepret Mr. Luers' words. No argument from me: great energy, momentum, & execution all around, and it's great to see the Ys series get more love & ansgaros return with a second ReMix!

Oooh, those drums have quite the kick to them and that is something you really want for a metal track like this one, so I'm liking that. The switch in melody direction near the end is a great way to keep things heavy without sacrificing the pace of the ReMix. Personally, I would have let the whole mix go a little longer after the solo before the end, but honestly, I couldn't really nitpick anything out of this one because I really dig it throughout. Also on a personal taste side, really love the name of the mix. Something about the imagery of the title still gets a thumbs up from me. Not bad.

This is an amazing blend of rock work with synth work. And I absolutely love the percussion work in this track. My only problem is that the track feels like it ends very abruptly. Almost too abruptly. Gave this otherwise exciting track a very lackluster ending. But two lackluster seconds won’t take away how I felt about the rest of this track.

I like it. A metal mix akin to the remake's version, except shaken up more. The change-up at 2:40 from the original melody until the end is welcome.

Some of the strings near 0:45 were a bit stiff, but it's minor (and so is the key! ). The blast beats were well-done; I don't often hear that working cleanly without an apparent pumping feel. Interesting fade at 3:26---I think that was meant to be for punch, but to me it felt a bit weird. Solid work though; great performance!
