Arranging the music of one song...

"Sub Castle BGM"

Primary Game: Super Mario World (Nintendo , 1990, SNES), music by Koji Kondo

PLUMBER FLOOD continues with another newcomer as B-laze (Kenneth Nordsveen) takes us on a psy-trance/electro trip through SMW's sub-castle BGM:

"This is an electro/club remix of SMW castle theme from SNES. I have a few custom melodies in there, and the "drop" is an anti-climax drop. I find the original soundtrack very unique and mystic, so I decided to do something clubby out of it."

A couple things strike me as unique & memorable here; love the integration of breakbeats here & there, the accelerando on the source's trademark rise/fall arpeggio, and also the soundscape is a little unorthodox in the amount of space it leaves open for various FX & components - in other words, the main kick + bass groove doesn't overpower things and is even a little bit lower than you'd usually hear for a track in the genre. This makes it much easier to catch the details that Kenneth's added. Plenty of textural & tempo variation, too, which keeps you guessing for the 5'16" duration. Emunator echoed my own thoughts eloquently, so I don't even have to write them:

"Excellent track here. I was apprehensive at first due to how closely it hewed to the original source during the intro section, and how many times I've heard this source adapted to various electronic subgenres in the past. Once the drop at :45 occurred though, I was sold on your concept. This is a very nuanced, liquid arrangement that, in spite of a few minor flaws that have already been pointed out, succeeds at mixing the nostalgic source tune with a myriad of modern EDM tricks. Nothing in here is too off-the-wall or experimental (though the tempo-changing arpeggio transition at 1:58 was really pro - definitely a personal highlight!) but this is well-executed, competently produced, and above all, fun to listen to. I've got no trouble signing off on this!"

Basically, what he said: source has been EDM-ified many times by many talented artists, but this arrangement differentiates itself both structurally & texturally, embraces tempo fluctuation in a genre that doesn't always facilitate it, and makes for a great debut from B-laze - hope to hear more in the future!

Interesting take on the sub castle, it really does keep things fresh and has plenty of variation to keep you on your toes while listening. I especially thought the switch near the second minute was a nice piece of writing. I'm digging the beat of this and the aggressiveness of the synths, especially that bass and kick combo. The sound effects were not overused, just enough to add to the mix. Great sound, good production, and lots of good EDM energy. Nice work!

Great execution! I like the almost-Complextro feel of this. Good job on keeping the dynamics varied as well. Dat ring modulation at 3:16. :) I did hear a new bass at 1:43 in the new version (it fits). At 3:36, I actually like the older version---the newer version could have had a less piercing lead there. So maybe submitting the wrong track was a good thing! ;)

Hello
Im B-laze aka fungist, and just found out about my submission went through after getting a PM on my soundcloud.
I came here to check and was overwhelmed by the good review of my track, however i was so sad to realise something have gone wrong with

my submission.
I have no idea how this could possibly happend as i looked through it many times,

but i realised i have submitted a "early" version of the track.

The finished track wasnt the one i uploaded. It could be i had same name on both tracks and deleted the completed track instead of the "early" one,
and later exported the project again to upload to my social network.

This version here is almost done though, but it lacks proper mastering and mixdown, aswell as main bassline lacking a bit low's, so the LFO basses that comes in at 1:36 have too much bass compared to main line. Also a few sounds and leads are missing.

It seemed to get good review anyways so i gonna be happy and thankful for that.

please allow me to share the proper version here.
excuse me if that was rude of me :dstrbd:

I had chills beginning at 0:12, and when 1:58 hit, it's like the temperature dropped twenty degrees. The arrangement is glorious and oozes of unbridled energy.

Oh god. I am completly sold. Such strong groove. Love the usage of in-game FX - quite neat. If you love slick EDM, download this track, you won't regret.
