It's already December, but we've got a latebreaking front-runner for "most absurdly masculine mix title" in the form of this Street Fighter Alpha rock-funk medley-splosion from Prince uf Darkness (Tony Dickinson):
"This is the winning track from MAGFest 13's DoD month, which by the way, had tons of strong entries, including a mega-entry by a large collection of OCR contributors. The theme for DoD was "Dance Month," and I wanted to do something dancy, but of course, it turned into a jazz fusion wank-fest much like most of my other non-metal tracks do. Street Fighter Alpha's songs are dancy enough but also jazzy enough to keep interest. I could listen to Chun-Li's theme all day. So, I thought using the game as a source would work out well.
The majority of work went into the 4-5 days before I ended up leaving for MAGFest, as I was busy working on the Tiberian Sons' Conquering MAGFest (check it out by the way, includes updates to a few of my DoD/OCR mixes like "Prancing Dad" and "Hell March"), and pretty much had to scramble through the whole song as fast as I could before I caught a plane. (I ended up submitting it about an hour before I headed to the airport.)
By the way, this is actually the "Low T Edit" of the song (as in Low Testosterone), which doesn't include a specific intro quote by Viscant to Low Tier God during a Street Fighter IV competition that's been circulating the internet. If you want that version, DoD has it!"
First off, just gotta say, Street Fighter Alpha don't get enough respect, so I'm glad to be posting ANY arrangement of its music, much moreso a multi-source tribute from the likes of PuD. Larry Oji's got the play-by-play:
"Here's a rough breakdown of the various themes in here:
Chun-Li (SFA1) - :00-:03, 1:39-2:38, 4:01-4:15
Vs. (SFA1) - :03-:09
Dan (SFA1) - :10-1:30
Zangief (SFA2) - 2:46-2:53, 3:01-3:30
Sakura (SFA2) - 4:26-5:23, 5:53-6:08First thing's first, I don't... miss... having the Viscant quote as the intro, BUT I learned about it thanks to Tony's reference to it, and now I'm dying. :-D If you're not a language prude, check out the WHOLE DEAL, because it's greaaaaat and it puts the mix's title into focus in a way that only a Shizzie can do.
Onto the track itself, I wasn't a fan of the mixing, in that it was noticeably cluttered. I'm a little surprised PuD let it go like that, but, per his comments, it had everything to do with him bumping up against the DoD submission deadline. That said, nothing's jacked, and we don't make the perfect the enemy of the good; meanwhile, the arrangement & performance are both Tony's standard excellence. Unlike his early MMX medley "Zero Light," the transitions are smoother here, including some fun occasional drops of the SFA series' announcers. One of the subtler highlights for me was Tony's Zangief bass work in combination with his comping and soloing from 2:46-2:53 & 3:01-3:30, but the treatment of ALL 4 character themes here was very energetic, and each theme is very personalized with tons of flair and lots of original writing integrated perfectly. Also, we see what you did there at 4:53. In another nice twist, the irony isn't lost on me that for an "Alphamale" track, most of the arrangement focuses on themes from women characters. Ladies first is what a real alpha male does. :-D I love Street Fighter Alpha and have a ton of great memories playing it on the Sega Saturn as a kid (not to mention SF2 & 3), so I can safely say that any Street Fighter fan should love this! Nice work, Tony!"
What he said, & everything he said; great stuff from Tony which rocks, funks, goes for it (man), goes for broke, can't give it up, & faces it straight, among others!

Starting off with Dan after the vs intro was the best choice to set the tone for this funky track, and I really liked the transitions between Chun-li and Zangief and Sakara getting the best end of the latter half of it all. Switching back and forth between all of those classic sources made this sound so smooth, it never lost it's rocking energy or funk. So many great themes meshing together in a fantastic ReMix!

There is definitely the energy and rhythm to make it dancy and the various themes flow into each other organically.
Very fun to listen to! (And maybe even dance along. )

Woah, face melting outta nowhere. That solo at 0:40 is sick; the energetic style strongly reminds me of Joshua Morse. Stellar production on everything; it's a big melting pot of sound. Sick bass work. Crazy mix! In a good way.

Yo, this is sick! Great energy and all the solos are pretty awesome.

Smiling and strutting is what I feel with this tune. ^__^
I never thought a Street Fighter piece could feel so happy.

This is totally over-the-top. I can really tell you had a lot of fun with this one. It keeps a full soundscape almost the entire time, but clearly has the headroom to convey good dynamics. That bass solo at 3:46 - 4:26, though. D:

I love these fusion-ish mixes. I'd love to know which bands you use for inspiration since I barely know any bands with a similar sound.
Awesome job!
Easily the biggest influence for this track was Dirty Loops. Also, Japanese Fusion bands like T-Square and Casiopea, and other Fusion artists like Alex Argento, Marco Sfogli, Guthrie Govan, The Aristocrats, etc.

Your mix makes me want to go out and play Street Fighter. And any song that can make me want to play a game that I suck at is doing a good job, lol. I think my favorite part here is the flawless guitar performances, but the entire piece is fun and high-energy too so IDK really. Great track!

Man, PuD really knows how to make an awesome rock/fusion track. All the guitar solos are, of course, mind-blowing, but my favorite part here is the jazzier piano-led section @ 2:39. Insane work from Tony as always!

You know, PuD is ALWAYS making top tier stuff. Production is always perfect, performances are fucking insane, and all his tracks evolve and stylistically shift between so many awesome fusions of rock/metal, while still being cohesive. This is no exception. Talent like this makes my butt explode with envy.

The title doesn't make much sense without the trash talking opening.
I'm sure you've never seen a silly song title with no voiceclip before.

The title doesn't make much sense without the trash talking opening. That being said, the rendition of Sakura's theme in this song is very groovy.
