From the third round of The Sigma Fortress Remix Gauntlet 2015 comes Jorito (Jorrith Schaap) with... rickrollstep? Never before and perhaps never again will dubstep, vocoded Rick Astley lyrics, and Mega Man X2 & X3 come together in such resplendent glory... The artist explains:
"This is the track I did in the Sigma Fortress Remix Gauntlet 2015, round 3. It combines the tracks "X-Hunter Stage 1" from Mega Man X2 and my Maverick's theme "Gravity Beetle" from Mega Man X3. Since my team's name was Maverick Astley, it of course features some (IMHO, subtle and enjoyable) references to our third source, "Never Gonna Give You Up." This is most clearly to be found in the vocoded vox, but only using part of the lyrics gave it a more sinister touch, which I liked."
The wubs are plentiful, the style is rather indulgent, there are some unexpected transitions & tempo changes, and you've of course got Robo-Rick telling you what he's (hopefully...) NOT gonna do... but somehow it all works. Completely (politely?) ignoring the Astley angle, DragonAvenger writes:
"What a great transition between the themes at 0:45. Overall I felt the arrangement was pretty smart and fun, and the adaptions of the sources were good. I wasn't feeling the combination of the sources at 2:23, but that was pretty minor in the long run. The production was pretty clean, and there was a good use of panning between the melodies."
Gario adds:
"Oh, beautiful blending of the sources in this. The first time I listened to this I didn't know when one source ended and the other began - they just meshed so damn well together. I'm definitely with Deia and Larry, as far as transitions go, too, it's very well done. Robo-Rick certainly adds some unexpected flavor to the track, and it worked great. The arrangement just nails it so often, I loved it throughout."
Judges were unanimous; good times to be had by all. This concept might seem (more than) a little LOLZ, but the musicality is there, and the vocoded lyrics actually work pretty damn well... couple that with a deft blending of themes, nice transition work, and a decadent smattering of wobbles, and I think you've got something worthy AND hella fun. Props to Jorito for bringing this arrangement into the world & letting it run free!

I actually really enjoyed this, both musically and the cheeky Rickroll nods. The vox voice added a lot to the wubby beat and the themes worked well off each other. Very nice ReMix.

Oh yeah, this one! Yeah, this was a pretty fun remix to see on Round 3. The production is fairly clean. I did have a few nitpicks, which were that the left-panned wobble was a bit too resonant for me, and the lyrics weren't really intelligible. That crit about the lyrics turned out to help you though, I think; can't violate the standards with unintelligible lyrics (?)! Other than that though, the meshing of the sources was fairly seamless, and I believe I had voted this highly. EDIT: yup! I put (2).
