8 days to go on Mazedude's American Pixels kickstarter - if you like great, unique VGM arrangements, consider supporting a project that's providing a specific & worthwhile focus, doing something different (it's Chris, so that's almost a given!), and is sure to result in a tangible & amazing end result! Here with another mix of an American game composer's work (this time Tyrian's Alexander Brandon), Chris channels his inner Marilyn Manson for an EDM/industrial take on "Asteroid Dance, Part 1":

"Hey hey; it's been hidden for long enough now, and I'm ready to make this remix LIVE. Below is a track I originally wrote for American Pixels, and then switched over to a bonus track because, well, it didn't quite fit. A bit too dark and heavy... but still awesome. :)

A tribute to American composer Alexander Brandon, this remix takes sounds and inspiration from a variety of sources, including Hunz, Skaven, Laxity, Sting, and yes, oddly enough, even Marilyn Manson (hence the title). I'd originally crafted this for American Pixels, but ultimately felt it was a bit too dark and heavy next to the rest of the album. So, consider this a bonus track, and enjoy!"

The distorted guitar riff is a pretty clear tell on the mix title influence, and I dig the rolling drums paired with sci-fi synth FX - feels like you're right in the cockpit, and crazy ass laser blasts are shootin' all over the place, but you're too cool to care because you're a leaf on the wind and you got sick theme music. Basically. Larry writes:

"Thanks to Mazedude for being willing to submit this to OCR once he made the decision to shift this off of the American Pixels album. As I'm sure will be evident with several pieces on that album, part of the intrigue of Mazedude incorporating other musicians' styles is seeing how comfortably he makes it all work.

Chris recognized how the beats in "Asteroid Dance, Part 1" had that rhythmic similarity to Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People" and it was off to the races, with a smart arrangement influenced by the pale emperor and Twiggy Ramirez yet still focused on beefing up Alexander Brandon's original. Stylistically, it's both Manson and Siren and yet neither, as Chris's sounds give this its own unique flavor. Quite the chimera, per his usual goodness!

With that said, PLEASE be sure to give Chris your support to help him make American Pixels a reality. If you consider yourself a Mazedude fan, it'll be worth your while to support it on Kickstarter and have his back on this project!"

Tyrian had some great music, and it's been great to see different source tunes get the spotlight with each featured ReMix we've posted. American Pixels is sure to be a creative tour de force, and it's been exciting seeing Chris work up to this project as an artist over the years. This ReMix is but one of many compelling reasons you should consider supporting the KS, and is yet another distinct, memorable, & unambiguously MAZEDUDE creation!

I can definitely hear the Manson influence. Not so sure about anything else (I'm not really catching the Sting, and I've never even heard of Hunz, Laxity or Skaven before today...)

That aside, I really enjoy this piece! I may add this to my chillax playlist or my work shuffle. Hard to call there, as it sort of "rides the line" in my book, but that's not necessarily a bad thing!

What's funny is that when I picked this game to remix, I was primarily trying to find something by Alexander Brandon that I hadn't heard before. So, I skipped over Deus Ex, Jazz Jackrabbit, Unreal, and then... I found Tyrian on Alexander's Bandcamp page. Ideas formed from there, and the rest is history. Glad you enjoy it!

This is a fantastic remix of a source I'm actually familiar with. I kept anticipating the arp from the source to come in... and this song kept teasing me with it. I was disappointed when it ended!

Hot damn, this is a work of genius. Loving all the metallic + dark textures.
