TWO WORDS: UNDERTALE FLOOD!!
September, our traditional month of themed mixfloods, has been very slow to get started due to pesky IRL issues like work & health & what not, but we've got FOUR (!) ReMixes of Undertale lined up for you today, all four are excellent, and this should help heal the pain of flood neglect. Plus we'll do some more floods into October. Okay? Okay. Here to get us started with his first mixpost of 2016 is TGH (Jamison Randall), who throws down a bubbly, sugary-sweet, & energetic d'n'b take on "Hopes and Dreams" & "His Theme":
"What's up, guys! First and foremost: really excited to be submitting again! I really should get around to submitting some of the other things I've done as well. Anyway, I was recently "introduced" to this game by some friends, who collectively could not stop raving about the game, to be frank. It turned out to be possibly the best money I've ever spent on a video game.
The soundtrack overall is wonderful, simply put. However, upon hearing "Hopes and Dreams," the final boss fight theme, I knew it wasn't really an option: this theme WOULD be remixed. And for reasons besides just the similar tempo, I think the "dancefloor" drum and bass subgenre fits pretty well with the composition style. "His Theme" is such an iconic, emotional song throughout the game as well, so I couldn't help not to include it once I realized it fit so well. I guess that's about it from me... I'll submit more soon!"
ALWAYS good to hear from Jamison, definitely looking forward to what else he's got in store for us; his clean, tight, & often positive/upbeat EDM aesthetic that's worked so well for many of his Mega Man 2 & Pokémon mixes works just as well here for Undertale. Meaty beats, brisk pacing, poppy synths, and a generally pleasant (if quick!) demeanor characterize this arrangement, which does a great job of blending two of the more iconic themes. I dug the filtering & lo-fi FX and very dynamic panning, all of which bring the whole thing to vibrant, three-dimensional life. DragonAvenger writes:
"Pretty fun take on both of these themes. Actually somewhat similar to Andrew's mix which was finished around the same time, so neat coincidence there! The driving beat really keeps this moving, and the breakdowns are a great contrast. Good stuff!"
Yeah, similar vibe, both blending EDM with a sort of pop sensibility; I hear it. Excellent stuff, a great way to kick off our quartet of Undertale ReMixes, and props to TGH for another rock-solid arrangement & production!

Starts out slowly but quite satisfying. Love the energy and the arrangement is very tight. Good work overall.

Oh, I remember this tune from "Straight from the Underground" (that's a great Undertale remix album! Be sure to check it out). Very solid, headbanging stuff, just as expected from TGH. Good job, man!
