More from Candy Corn, this time from the ever-popular Chrono Trigger OST, but arranging one of the less common sources, as YoshiBlade wields dubstep components in another stark, spooky, & twisted soundscape that sounds kinda like Hogwarts being attacked by evil robots from the future:
"So, in the future, 2300 A.D. in CT, notes will appear in the sewer section, but only if you saved Fritz in 1000 A.D. This is the more interesting part of storytelling... let the story tell, not the writer tell. Why are they there? How did they get there? Is it even the same Fritz? They must be related, but... see, it's the little details of CT that made it a great game."
Gario deserves some considerable props for facilitating this release, working with YB, Larry, & me to connect the dots - much appreciated! This track was one of his faves:
"Ooo, I like this arrangement. Haunting and interesting. Great use of dubstep-ish instruments. It's one of my favorites on the album."
Liontamer adds:
"Among Uematsu's pinch hitter themes on the Chrono Trigger soundtrack, "Sealed Door" tends to receive the most attention, so it's refreshing to get Yoshi focusing on the sewer theme instead! Really digging the dystopian intro for the first 52 seconds, with a such a different mood than the original. 1:31 brought in some good dubstep elements that just added some extra flavor for a half-minute without getting overbearing (not that there's anything wrong that). YoshiBlade stuck pretty fast to the melodic structure but gave it such an effectively dark transformation with the textures constantly evolving around the melody. YB's come a fair way from his enjoyable debut mix on OCR, and his tricks are our treat with Candy Corn! :-)"
It's great stuff, keeping the album aesthetic going but also branching out, employing some tastefully abrasive wubs & electronic mayhem while the melody remains identifiable, haunting, & somewhat gothic, at least in this setting. You could see this passing as a Castlevania mix if you didn't know the source :) Hits hard while also bringing the spooky - another treat from Candy Corn!!

Funky. I recognised the source straight away even though it's one of the more forgettable tracks from the game.
I think this has a bit of a Richard Joseph (RIP) sound to it, perhaps what he might've made if he was alive today. That's a huge compliment.
The music is harmoniously satisfying, even accounting for all the effects added to the melody. Even though I think dubstep is a bit overdone now, it works nicely in this track. Good job.

Nice take on this. Definitely gives a different vibe to that section of the game.

In 2300 AD, emotions become less authentic and more artificial, as if robots are replacing humans. This remix honestly made me feel uneasy.

Hey, it's my favorite track of the album. Neat-o.
I think Yoshiblade's arrangement style works wonders for a track like this one - rather than significantly changing the structure, he adds more and more over the sparse source that was giving, changing the original feel of the track quite a bit. It's a very effective method in getting more out of something that didn't provide much.
Them wubs were pretty tasty, too, as were most of the effects he sprinkles throughout. The beginning does a great job giving this a more haunting atmosphere than normal, too. It's some quality stuff, here.
I never knew that tidbit about Fritz, either - that was a pretty cool bit of trivia provided as a bonus. Great track all around!
