Happy birthday, Mega Man!!
We just had Nostalvania posted with another great take on the Castlevania series, but for Mega Man's birthday today, we've got a funky arrangement by Markus from the Blue Bomber's classic series focused on the robot master of the Spark Shock! Nostalvania (Markus) writes:
"This is my funk/jazz version of the Spark Man theme from Mega Man III. This remix is a bit different compared to most of my other songs, because this time I used all electric/electronic instruments (except for the violin) and a four-on-the-floor beat.
The bass is always playing the Spark Man intro at the beginning and also between the main theme. At 2:01 and 3:02, there is a breakdown section with a violin playing the first phrase of the source melody. Also, organ solo at 2:34 (I couldn't resist).
As always, I was struggling to find a nice mix title. Here are some ideas I came up with that I want to share with you (mostly bad puns):
- I'm Live and Alive
- Don't Touch My Light Bulb!
- Ohm My God (ouch)
- Deaf by Electrocution
The actual title maybe isn't that funny (or rather silly), but it's short and sounds cool, IMO."
"Ohm My God" is right up there with "That's Besaid the Point" in the higher echelons of cheese punnery. Or is that pun cheesery? Doesn't matter, since Markus didn't run with it :) REALLY funky stuff here, with an unapologetically dirty bass that gets all up in your bidness, in a good way. Organ solo is sick, and I love the spirallin', comin-at-ya rotary panning the Leslie adds to a very expressive B3 line. Gario writes simply:
"Holy crap. Hurry up and post this."
Yeah. DaMonz addz:
"This is so much fun! The Rhodes and clavinet comping are brilliant, the organ soloing is super cool... and that BASS, wow! Awesome jam with great highs and lows to keep things interesting all the way through, and driven by a nice and steady beat. My sockets have been rocked. Great work!"
Apparently DaMonz has multiple sockets, where the title only implied singular, but ALL of them were rocked, so you know what you need to know, okay? Markus has been showing off his funkier side a lot more lately, but this might just take the cake in that vein, as the bass is ever-present and adds extra deep funk to every lick even when it's not the focus. If you're looking for MOAR MEGA MAN MUSICS on this anniversary, you should of course check out our Mega Man anniversary tribute album, For Everlasting Peace: 25 Years of Mega Man, which has some funk & swagga of its own. Superlative work from Markus, who's had an amazing year, turned in some mixes that will definitely stand the test of time, and shown depth & versatility while also having a great deal of fun. Can't do better than that. Happy 29th birthday to the Blue Bomber, and mad props to Nostalvania for giving us a mix worthy of the occasion!

Ooh, groovy. This entire ReMix is so smooth, and you couldn't stop at that beautiful violin, you went and added a sweet organ solo as well. The bass was simply electrifying as well. I guess you can say that Nostalvania had a spark of creativity with this one. Awesome mix.

Great stuff. Not familiar with the source, but I like the instruments used - and how the bass keeps moving. Excellent sound. Weirdly, I would assume the bass might be real and that the violin part were "faked" if it were not for the text!
