Arranging the music of one song...
"Dark City Treno"

Bluelighter (Guillaume Saumande) follows up his whimsical ReMix of Alex Kidd from last year (which I liked so much so that I posted it on my birthday) with a similarly quirky & charming march arrangement off our Final Fantasy IX: Worlds Apart album:
"Treno's theme is really my favourite of the game; so that I could play this in loop in piano. :) For long time, I wanted to know what it would look like with an orchestral dimension. FF9 album project was the opportunity to make mine!
In this mix, I wanted to insist on a cheerful rhythm of marching band, with also some more exotic parts by using of woodwinds and pizz. Thanks to Fishy who really helped to finish this mix and get a version presentable to OCR!
I hope you'll like this arrangement. :)"
It's funny that so many artists have different favorites from Uematsu's larger soundtracks; a testament to his ability to craft not only appealing but diverse pieces. This arrangement has a lot of elements in common with the artist's Alex Kidd ReMix; positive, upbeat, & expressive work, with a rolling snare, delicate pizzicato & harp, excellent dynamic contrast, and general panache. I dig the epic timpani-laden slowdown towards the end, and there are TONS of flourishes, glissandi, etc. that keep things vibrant & interesting. Worlds Apart director Fishy writes:
"Bluelighter worked extremely hard on his tracks, constantly sending updates and improvements at a rate I could barely respond to! The Treno theme always had a very grand nature, and this is a very appropriate orchestration."
Guillaume revised his initial version of this based on panel feedback; of the update, Liontamer writes:
"Obviously, it's not performed live, but the samples sounded much more credible overall, and the result was a performance that was much smoother this time around. Nice work, Guillaume. We've been waiting for something like this from you for a long time, but finally we have a finished track that does your arrangement concepts justice with solid sample and production quality."
Roger that; Flexstyle concurs:
"Echoing what Larry said, it's obvious that this song was sequenced, and yet it doesn't take away at all from its enjoyability. The soundscape is filled beautifully, and this seems like just the right genre to do a remix of the source in. I was nodding my head withing the first couple measures - nice 'n catchy!"
Great, imaginative stuff that pairs well with the artist's previously-posted mix and offers up another rich, deep, & wonderful march!

This may sound like a knock, but it's really not - the Dark City Treno theme was not one of my favorites from FF IX, a rarity in a soundtrack that I pretty much universally loved. I hope the remixer notes this reality as I am even MORE impressed with the quality of work here! I feel like I'm in some sort of celebratory parade, where the city is celebrating its 100th anniversary or something and everyone's off work the next day. The mix gets better as it goes along, and the last half really showcases some nice handling and adjustments to the main line. Bonus points for the cool ending.
I would never have thought to remix this song OR do it in this way - and it works! Congrats on a great tune!
