ReMix:Final Fantasy VII "Vincent's Longing" 2:58

A brief, suspenseful orchestral interlude from RebeccaETripp, arranging Vincent's theme from FF7 with prominent harp, piano, and double reeds, accompanied by ensemble strings & bells:

"Here is my next FF7 remix. It's an orchestral arrangement of "The Nightmare Begins"/"The Nightmare's Beginning"/"Vincent's Theme"/"Vincent Valentine's Theme," etc.! There are so many names for this track. The original was composed by Nobuo Uematsu, as I'm sure most of you are already aware. ^^

For this piece (especially toward the climax portion), I drew inspiration from many classical piano concertos from the romantic period. Somehow, I just feel that the piano fits Vincent's character very well. It seems to convey his internal struggle, his personal longing and his desire to find meaning in his life."

This is shorter than most of Rebecca's work, but still creates a distinct mood and invites the curious listener in with interwoven plucked & wind textures. Judges had some production nitpicks but Palpable explained why they didn't bother him too much:

"There was a lot of velocity variance here, as well as different instrument articulations, so I thought the dynamics were quite good. There are certainly sections where it could be touched up, and I feel like what this track could REALLY use for realism is more rubato, but I thought this was not even close to a NO. The sounds themselves are very high-quality and well-balanced; the arrangement is excellent. I also thought the level of 'verb was ok. Rebecca is fast becoming someone I keep my eye on."

DarkeSword adds:

"I feel like the arranging and part-writing certainly makes up for the production issues. Oboe feels a little exposed, but that's a nitpick for me. I think this is lovely. Very mysterious. I'm on board."

In just under three minutes, this creates a pretty compelling environment and sets the stage very effectively. It doesn't explode into action or even resolve too conclusively, so rather than telling a multi-part story this feels more like a transition... which is just fine, especially when dynamics, tempo, etc. are paid such close attention & each hue is painted in a complementary fashion. Short but sweet... except really more dark & brooding than sweet :)
