MEGARRANGEMENT!! OverClocked Records released DaMonz' Kirby's Liberation Service EP yesterday, it's awesome, we highly recommend checking it out & showing the artist your support with the very accessible $3.99 price tag (also on Bandcamp!), and we've got a humongojumbo sample track to help convince you, with this 10+ minute chip-prog/synth-pop Kirby Super Star extravaganza! DaMonz (Emery Monzerol) writes:
"So, I decided to make something big. The history of this track is basically: "I'll make a 'Cocoa Cave' remix because I really like that track, and it's been a while since I've made music just for me. Oh, Meta Knight's music would fit nicely here! Ah, let's just throw in another. Ahhh, just one more..."
And then, weeks and weeks of musical Kirby Frankensteining happened. And then, I decided to make an EP out of it because I was having way too much fun. :D
Now, I already feel the judges' despair from that list of sources (I'm really sorry), so let me break it down:
- 0:00-1:47: "Cocoa Cave"
- 1:47-3:03: "Meta Knight's Revenge"
- 3:03-4:10: "Taking Over the Halberd"
- 4:10-4:48: "Heart of Nova"
- 4:48-5:22: "Heart of Nova" mixed with "Gladiator Kirby"
- 5:22-5:39: "Gladiator Kirby" à la "Cocoa Cave"
- 5:39-5:59: "Dynablade's Nest"
- 5:59-7:51: "Marx's Theme"
- 7:51-9:00: "Gourmet Race"
- 9:00-9:45: "Green Greens"
- 9:45-10:14: "Kirby's Triumphant Return"
Also, I want to dedicate this remix to my amazing friend Marc-André Parenteau, for all the countless times we beat Kirby Super Star together all the way back since second grade. Best co-op couch game, best friend, 10/10 would childhood again."
Amazing stuff; the single biggest issue judges had were that SOME of the transitions are indeed abrupt, but others aren't, the instrumentation/aesthetic remains consistent & connected, and DAYUM if this ain't some explosive, high-energy, synthtastical & celebratory chip-prog jammin'! Gario sums up the relevant points with analytical clarity:
"Nearly direct-post quality stuff here, for sure - production is absolutely crisp on this one. The arrangement has a few tricks up its sleeve, even if it's a hint conservative on the source presentation. The one big concern that I have on this is the medley nature of this; some of those transitions just drop in from one theme to another without much attention paid to transitions. 1:48 stops and starts another section, for example, and 3:03 just jumps right into the next source with minimal bridging. The transitions after those, though, are pretty slick, and I thought the blending of sources at 4:48 - 5:39 was very effective.
Great stuff, there - hope to hear the rest of that album when you put it out."
And NOW YOU CAN :) Epic, comprehensive, and unequivocally boisterous stuff from DaMonz, overflowing with the type of energy & enthusiasm one associates with being pink and having a GIGANTIC appetite. Check it out, enjoy, and then support the artist by checking out the full EP!

Whoa, so many sources executed this smoothly is awesome, and the transitions did not bother me, as most of them seemed fitting to me. The upbeat chippyness blended with that percussion gave me such a sweet nostalgic feeling, makes me want to pop Kirby back into my SNES and play it again. So glad someone finally used Heart of Nova, as I always thought it would work well with other sources, so hearing it on it's own before being mixed with the Coliseum Battle source was great. All around fantastic ride, wonderful megamix here, man!

Damn smooth! ^__^ I was worried it'd be like a credits scroll, with so many tracks, but it avoids that feeling.

Holy crap, this remix is crazy! In the best possible way! I'm generally not a huge fan of chip-heavy mixes, but I've always thought it works really well with Kirby for some reason, and particularly this game, which is very near and dear to my heart. I didn't really notice any of the transition problems others have mentioned, at least not enough to pull me out. Great mix, start to finish.
Edit: Oh, and on a second listen, I'm really, really digging the transition that starts around 7:50, leading into Gourmet Race. Awesome stuff.

I really like this. I think Meta Knight's Revenge could have transitioned better from Cocoa Cave. I probably would have kept the drums going through that transition like a DJ mixing one track to the next. Overall, this is rather enjoyable. I'm glad to hear some stuff remixed and put up on OCRemix.org.

I'm reading the write up and having helped give damonz feedback during the making of this raging fuckity, fluffity piece of earcandy, i'm sat here reading the write up and thinking "There's something wrong with these transitions?"
Going on record and saying I strongly disagree, cause these transitions are in my eye, sick. In fact, 9:02 is such a fucking good transition that when I hear the Gourmet Race now, my brain goes "wait why isn't it transitioning to green greens?" - When a transition is so good I get confused when I don't hear it in the source tune, I say thats a job well fucking done personally.
As for the rest of it, what can I say? Its a fucking magnum opus of sorts. Yeah its a medley wah wah wah but its executed so damn fucking well. And the last 3 minutes or so are simply put... worth the wait.
I may be biased, since i'm a good friend and I saw this mix kinda
come into fruition, but is something that
definitely deserves to be applauded. Cute, cuddly yet
supremely epic. This doesn't deserve the free download imo, its
too good for that. Go buy the album instead!
