The Borne supremacy continues with part deux, as RoeTaKa (Alex Roe) takes us on a more bombastic journey with this dark & epic Bloodborne arrangement of "Ludwig, the Holy Blade" - the artist writes:

"Ludwig's theme is a song I got a lot of requests for. It's pretty daunting. The community is really passionate about FromSoft's games but also their music too, so there is this expectation for me personally that keeps growing with each remix I do. It's already hard enough that the originals are such killer orchestral arrangements, it makes me have to think harder about creating something different yet faithful. I find it creatively fulfilling, but I worry what the response will be like, haha.

My favourite part of the original is at 3:10 when the choir kicks up, it's very catchy. I decided to focus on that, but do it in half time for the most part. It's more heroic with a kind of marching rhythm to it. Ludwig considered his church hunters as honorable spartans, so I imagined this like they were back in their heyday kicking all sorts of beast ass. I tried to use different parts of the whole song. For some reason, I took the melody at 0:28 of the original (1:37 in mine) and made it 9/8 time... just thought that was cool! Some people might say, "That's not the sound Ludwig makes at 2:14 and 3:49!" I wanted that to feel like the hunters came across a Cleric Beast and were about to get their game on as the music kicks back in."

While I can't follow ALL the above since I don't have the free time for a commitment like BB, it's again cool just how involved & reciprocal Alex is with the whole BB/DS community - definitely a passionate lot. This intros with a gothic church organ bit and gets progressively more epic & symphonic as it builds, with more contrast & movement than the preceding arrangement, for a more narrative flavor. DragonAvenger writes:

"Wow, what a great soundscape! Everything is clear, and the balance is really nice. The arrangement is strong, and the chorus really brings things together. The original track was definitely a big fish to take on, and I think Alex does a phenomenal job keeping things recognizable but adding some great new harmonies and arrangement. Props to the instrumentation and being able to keep such a huge sound without having issues on the production side!"

While each new BB/DS ReMix from Alex has its own set of ideas & identity, he's got the production side of things down to an art form, with lush & striking aesthetics and zero hiccups. This is an exciting, suspenseful arrangement that strikes a nice balance with the more pensive predecessor, making for a one-two Bloodborne combo today of slow, intene build & grand, cathartic release!

I love that the remixer is not settling for already-achieved levels and instead is challenging the difficulty and complexity of different themes while (most importantly, in my eyes) never losing the goal of staying true to the source. The description and the reasoning for some of the decisions are really amazingly thought out. 2:14-3:16 just shines - the choir and the music beautifully interweave and alternate precedence, neither ever feeling out of place. Great job!!
