Our second today from Rebecca E. Tripp is a plucky, folksier take on Chrono Cross:
"Another Marbule" is my favorite song in Chrono Cross! It was originally composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. I can't even describe the degree to which I adore that composition. For over ten years, I've been imagining a cover of this song, but I somehow never got around to it until now. In this remix, I used elements from "Home Marbule" as well as the "other" one, as I did with my "Arni" cover. I always loved how Mitsuda created alternate versions of so many of these tunes; I tried to include elements from all versions of a given Chrono Cross track in my arrangements."
Harp & bells intro with an almost lullaby calm into mixed winds & piano, and things build from there, as that distinct RPG "village" aesthetic is thoroughly channeled. Lovely harmony writing, and I liked how the reverb levels were different for different parts, with some "sitting" closer up & others given more space. It's Jivemaster's birthday today, so let's see what HE thinks:
"Another whimsical mix from 'ETripp. Instruments sound decent to my ears, they work together well to push the arrangement forward. The mix is busy in places but certainly not crowded. Production is solid, I personally felt the parts have a decent volume, nothing is overpowering or attention seeking. The arrangement does mostly stay in the same gear from beginning to end, which is probably my main crit with this - it would've been nice to hear some changes here and there. Overall though, I don't have any major concerns."
I like that we're posting this with Rebecca's FF12 ReMix, because the two feel like kindred spirits - not medleys, mixed instrumentation folk with orchestral flourish (or vice versa, if you like), atmospheric, deliberate, relatively static but not without development, and heavy on intertwining, beautiful part-writing. Both great mixes which bring out the best in their respective sources; 2017 has been a great year for Rebecca on OCR already, and this double-dose of FF12 & Chrono Cross only continues that trend!

I'm a woodwind player, and I absolutely love them in this. Beautiful.
