Arranging the music of one song...
"Renegade Saber"
Primary Game: Run Saber (Atlus , 1993, SNES), music by Hikoshi HashimotoPosted 2017-07-18, evaluated by the judges panel
Our second NutS is ALSO from a game previously unmixed on OCR, SNES Strider-wannabe Run Saber, which sounds like an XTREME version of running with scissors, and which Sir_NutS (Paul Michael Molina) turns into a high-octane 80's synth-rock extravaganza which intentionally channels WillRock:
"It's been a while since I finished a song, so I thought it was about time. This is a remix of Run Saber, a game I used to rent all the time as a kid. It was a simple, enjoyable action game with great music. Kind of a Strider ripoff with multiplayer, but fun.
Anyways, this theme, I had been bugging WillRock to remix it almost every time we talked for over a year, because I always thought it was perfect for him, but he wasn't very interested, so I decided I should remix it myself, somewhat in the style I think Will would do it, but adding my own as well. So you get a discount-WillRock sort of a remix. I tried to get him to do the guitars only after I finished it, but it seems he was too busy with other projects, so, yeah.
I ended up using Shreddage, which sounds alright in this song, IMO. The rest of the song was done using my usual array of synths. I had a lot of fun with the arrangement, doing some extensive soloing for some of the parts. In the end, doing synthrock with modern drum elements and techniques was a lot of fun and I may do it again soon. The track name is a double pun thanks to F4T4L, as always."
Punderbar! Did you know that I was the one who recommended the name "Shreddage" to Andy & ISW? True story. While I had nothing ELSE to do with it, unlike SAC, it's still cool just to see the name pop up all the time! But enough about me, let's talk about NutS... who kills it with a pretty spot-on WR impression - drums are a bit heavier, noodling a little less intense, but the bones are there & the guts are there, so the spirit of Mr. Harby looms large on the overall. MindWanderer writes:
"Mmm, I can definitely taste the fake WillRock here. He would probably have hammed it up much more, especially in 2:39-3:00, but overall, mission accomplished. Just a little chippier than what he usually does, getting that genuine NutS flavor in."
Chock full o'NutS®!!
Sorry, that came out of nowhere. It did HAVE to happen, though, I think we can agree on that. Judges again had a mixed bag of production concerns, but none too prohibitive. I can say this: I never played Run Saber, but if I WAS going to run, and with a saber or sharp implement of some variety, I think listening to this ReMix would boost my confidence and personal efficacy tenfold, at least. Seriously, fun & energetic stuff from Mike, who turns in two mixes that are both pumpin', caffeinated EDM arrangements of games we didn't have on file before today... very cool!

Wow, this is a super underappreciated track! It's been stuck in my head for the last few days, and I'm really happy about it - super catchy and upbeat retro-flavored goodness! Totally nailed some of the classic WillRock sound here as well, haha. The guitar may be fake, but it certainly adds a lot of charm Absolutely love this remix, keep making awesome stuff!

Any love for Runsaber is an upvote from me. Doesn't hurt that the mix sounds pretty damn great as well.
