One last cut off Smash The Record: The Record to end the week, as Nabeel Ansari (formerly Neblix), brother of album director Shariq Ansari, sends us a searing, short-but-sweet rock/metal take on MMX5:
"Shariq needed a quick mix for the upcoming Smash The Record event, and asked me to pick from MMX or Kirby. I figured I hadn't done anything from MMX series yet since my younger days in the Remix Battles, so I did a metal arrangement testing out a lot of my sample libraries that don't see much use, namely a lot of Shreddage products and the Matt Halpern drums from GetGood Drums. This mix is 100% sequenced, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I picked "X vs. Zero" because I had been earlier frustrated with existing remixes of it that didn't quite capture the open feel of it in the source, and I wanted something that did."
Literal bro DarkeSword writes:
"Damn, Nabeel. When did you get this good?"
Supportive siblings FTW; it has been & continues to be awesome to see the Ansari brothers do amazing things on OCR, ISW, and beyond, and it's cool that they worked together on STR:TR. While guitar players might sneer at sample-based metal as being "fakey" or otherwise non-brutal, leaving faces unmelted, I think Impact Soundworks has an amazing product line with Shreddage, and I'm looking forward to 3.0; this sounds pretty damn badass to me. Things intro hot, super-dramatic high string stabs amp up the epic, and eventual guitar solo lead melody soars like a leaf on the wind. The slow bend at 1'39" is particularly nice. At 3'23" this is on the shorter side, but it's chock full o' oomph & delivers a formidable melodic payload on its brisk schedule, and feels very complete. Great stuff from Nabeel - be sure to check out Smash The Record AND Smash The Record: The Record and show some support!

Whoa, I actually really like how it starts similar to the original but keeps building and building and building over the course of the ReMix, which really makes it hit harder in the last minute, especially the drums for me personally. The whole mix sounded great, but it really felt like it was all made for sticking that climactic ending, and you did. Awesome.

Man, this mix just kept getting better and better. Great energy and I love the way the themes interweave with the drums. By the end I was already scrolling up to play it again!! Well done!

This is powerful and effective, there's nothing here that doesn't need to be here. I could spot a few places where I could tell it was sequenced guitar (after reading about the fact in the write-up), but only a few, and to me it all sounds good anyway. The solo around 1:30 is super sweet.

Seemed fairly conservative to me at first, but once we got to the 1-minute mark, it got more interpretive. I dig the solo at the 1.5 minute mark!

Your Neblix has evolved in Nabeel Ansari!
Seriously, his skills have evolved, too! Nice work!
