PirateCrab (Daniel Woodyer) sends us a crunchily satisfying hard rock Sonic 3 "Hydrocity" ReMix off of MOBIUS: Sonic the Hedgehog Remixed:
"After joining the Materia Collective and having done several pieces of music with them, an opportunity popped up to do some work on a Sonic album. "Hydrocity" has been sat in my WIP's since 2013 roughly, and I'd never progressed past the original iconic melody. So I challenged myself, this song HAD to be on this album. No questions. The result is what you hear now! Come at me Sonic, time for some more!"
The artist played it a bit more conservative than on previous arrangements, but it's actually really cool to hear aggressive, high-impact shreddage paired with the swingin' swagger of the original cadence. Face is still melted, but with panache! Liontamer writes:
"With both the dynamic contrast and melodic interpretation, this could have went more places, but I agreed with Gario that there's 0 issue here with the arrangement possibly being too conservative. It's melodically close, sure, but the adaptation to rock is expansive and personalized, and that's all we need. You also have some brief but effectively written original sections there in between the uses of the source tune to glue it all together. Great energy in your arrangement and performances, Daniel!"
Nutritious succinctly corroborates:
"Solid rock work here. Clean production and tight performances. Source is a bit on the conservative side, but plenty of personal touch as well for me. Nothing else really to add here. Good stuff."
It's on the closer side of the interpretation spectrum, but it checks our boxes - the bitchin' solo parts definitely help - and while I think there could have been more playful experimentation peppered about, what you've got is a fun, tightly wrapped, & confident take on a VGM classic - good stuff!

I agree with djp about adding a little more improv this is a strong contender for housethegrate's walk on water. I love them both. I do wish the lead guitar was a little more upfront, felt that rhythm, bass was a bit overpowering mixing-wise.

Easily one of the best if not THE best Hydrocity cover ever. So epic

Guitar lovers, you've found your vibe. This is straight Sonic rock, and well done at both the interpretation as well as the overall sound - it's like something right out of a Sonic set of extra levels for those players hardcore enough to earn a particularly difficult and rocking version of the Hydrocity zone. Well done!
