CrimzonWolf777 (Damon Barlow) takes us on a deep dive of DKC2's "Forest Interlude" for his third featured ReMix, with an ambient R&B ballad vibe that's ultra-chill & meditative:

"Took me forever, but finally finished this song. This is definitely one of my favorite songs from DKC2. I really loved the way the melody just sounded. So I tried my own take on it, and gave it a bit of an R&B-ish sound to it. As far as the title: take Squitter, doing what he loves the most, in a place where it seems like a dream, and BAM! "Squitter's Dream," haha. Enjoy!"

Let's take a second and get visceral:

squitter (third-person singular simple present squitters, present participle squittering, simple past and past participle squittered)

  1. To create watery stool; to squirt.
  2. (communications engineering) To broadcast squitter.

I'm lovin' it, so... How much squitter could Squitter squitter if Squitter could squitter squitter? Perhaps just... squat... but I'm *guessing* a lot... especially on twitter. But I (clearly) digress... although this mix IS watery, and actually reminds me of "Aquatic Ambiance" in that sense; very transporting, serene, & reflective. Things are a little conservative & static at bits, especially given the 6+ minute duration, but there's some nice soloing and a good sense of space & restraint. Gario writes:

"This one took me by surprise; the beginning sounds pretty conservative, even mimicking the source instruments, but then things start taking shape and developing into something more interpretive. At 0:46 I let out a small 'Whoa.', and if you get that outta me you know you have something pretty cool on your hands.

The arrangement is conservative, but the pacing and additional textures help it shine, and some subtractive arranging in the middle help keep it distinct enough as the track goes on. The reliance on similar sounding synths used throughout is both a blessing and a curse; they draw the track closer to 'too conservative' territory, but at the same time when things break away the impact is far greater. The approach has its flaws, but the impact it had on me definitely justifies their use, for me."

NutS concurs:

"This remix takes the original atmospheric tone and expands upon it by adding more interpretation that feels a bit jazzy at times, and I was pleasantly surprised by the directions the artist took with some of the variations. It takes its time to develop ideas but doesn't drag on. This was a very pleasant listen and I think the mixing issues didn't take away much of that enjoyment. It's arrangement/tone/ambience vs some mixing issues for me, and I think the former tips the scales in its favor."

I think it drags on a *little*, but not prohibitively; the choral pads that anchor everything are sustaining for the vast majority of the mix, and while I probably would have preferred more movement, the end result was also kinda hypnotizing. Cool, dreamy, super-mellow jam from Damon; lean back, relax, but please don't squitter.

I get the feeling of a lakeside portion of the grove-like forest from this ReMix, so be it a dream or water, the RB arrangement certainly give it a unique and wonderful sound. It's pretty good in my opinion.

Very cool. ^_^ I especially like the layering you've got going. Nice and calming with enough activity to make it exciting. :)

I've heard a lot of takes on this song, but I like how well you made this one unique! It has enough variation to keep me listening for the full six minutes, but its not too busy. Well done.

This deserved to be accepted. The ambient, foresty/foggy, semi-RB, downtempo vibe is definitely the kind of thing I've been into lately. It's tough to take a classic David Wise track that is already amazing, and make it better than the original, and you did. I've added this to my driving-to-work playlist.

Can we talk about how how happy I am right now?! I thought it would get rejected to be honest (almost did actually)...but here it is on OCR, and I'm screaming in happiness! Definitely gonna try to make a new remix. And hopefully I do a lot better. Thank you everyone! And djpretzel' s comments had me rolling lol.
