Boomer Kuwanger?!? But I don't even KNOW her!!
Never gets old. For me, I mean. For many, it was never young, and never will be. Gario (Greg Nourse) hits us with a cleaned-up version of his compo track from 2015, ReMixing Mega Man X/X3 & mashing together Kuwanger, Doppler, chip, orchestral components, choir, some tasteful glitching, and spiralling synth solos for an energized, uptempo EDM treat:
"Wow, it's been a while since I've submitted music on here. Here's something to tide everyone over -- an orchestral blend of chippy goodness. It's from the second round of the 2015 Sigma Fortress Remix Gauntlet, and it did... well, actually pretty poorly (there were a LOT of amazing tracks that round). Seems the issues people had with it overall were minor mixing issues though, so I cleaned it up for submission. While it didn't win me any gold medals, it's easily my best track for the competition, and with the track cleaned up, hopefully everyone who listens can agree. Good energy, nice thematic blending and some tasty harmonies - give it a listen and enjoy!"
I'm glad Greg revised this a bit, as the foundation was always strong & the sheer velocity and deftness of the lead synth makes it a fun ride. Chimpazilla with some pointers & praise:
"The lead writing here is terrific! I like the glitching. When the arps come in at 1:48 they compete with the lead since they are in the same frequency range. Some lead instrument variation would have been nice, and maybe one other texture instrument in addition to the arps (or instead of the arps in the second half or so) but the lead writing is really a highlight. Overall good writing, solid track."
NutS more or less concurs:
"Great energy, for sure! I love to hear compo tracks that really highlight sources and do a good job of bringing them together; everything sounds very natural and cohesive. Not too much to nitpick here, but I'd say maybe the lead synth is a bit too loud at times to the point where it's overpowering the track at times. Very enjoyable, nice work! "
While revised from its earlier incarnation, there still might have been a couple tweaks, as the judges point out, that would have added even more polish... but with lead lines so fast they have BLAST PROCESSING (on the SNES!?!), this gets the job done and delivers fast-paced MMX thrills. Good stuff, enjoy!

This was definitaly an eccentric mix. The blending of multiple styles really made for a unique soundscape. 2:37 gave me punch out vibes, lol. This was very solid, excellent remix!

Whoa, the chiptune and orchestral really blended together in an unexpected way. Not something I would have expected or thought about, but I really dig the contrast. Super unique and for these two tunes, it fits together. So much gelling going on here, I like it.

Gario's always been a swell guy on the Workshop forums, and his contribution to this album is full of celebratory energy. The choir fills the soundscape pretty nicely, adding an uplifting textural bed to support the leads, and the brass and strings maintain the energy by accenting the leads. The stutter-crazy lead sequencing, though, is what really exemplifies his attention to detail when it comes to extracting expression and nuance out of generally lower-quality sounds. I don't know about his title though; I consider this track more of a blue shift to higher energy. #BadSpectroscopyJoke

I love how the two tracks mix. The soft strings doing the doppler stage background, the nigh perpetual motion of the chips, it all blends into a chunky audio smoothie. Well done, sir!
