OCR newcomer and Power Quest guitarist Glyndwr Williams, a.k.a. Miso29, sends us our first featured ReMix of Snowboard Kids (N64), with a strong "cheery winter holiday... but metal" vibe:
"It's been a very long time since I did a video game remix and this year I really felt in the Christmas spirit. Since it's Christmas, why not do something involving snow? I had some downtime from band activities, so I decided to do something a little more fun and personal. Snowboard Kids holds a special place for me. As a child, the whole family would play it together. Here's my Christmas power metal cover of a song from a game I loved to play with my friends and family when I was younger.
I wanted to keep the intro somewhat similar to the original to give the main melody more of an impact when it came in. The goal for the rest of the song was to make an over-the-top, bombastic power metal remix that really lifts your spirits. I took the original structure and added loads of drums and guitars (to make it metal), then I added layers of choir, piano, synths, bells, brass, and strings to give the piece a more epic feel. I felt the piece needed a little more input than what I'd done, so I created a solo section. It would need to shred like the kids do in game! Obviously to make it more Christmas-y, I added some cliché sleigh bells through sections of the song."
Tis the season to be... shredding, as Glyndwr (a decidedly metal name) delivers a dose of high-energy, speedy, but still rather upbeat & wintry rock/metal. If they ever actually *made* "The Night the Reindeer Died" from Scrooged, this would be badass opening title music. Sir_NutS writes:
"Pretty excellent stuff, getting some modern Sonic the Hedgehog vibes from this. Fast, extremely energetic, and well-performed. Super cool breakdown at 3:24. If I had to be nitpicky I would say the transitions are a bit sudden and some sections feel like they're being repeated without much change, but nothing that detracts me from enjoying this. Nice Work."
MindWanderer adds:
"Yeah, I could nitpick but overall this is a fantastic performance, an entertaining arrangement, and overall just a lot of fun."
Roger that; glad to have this N64 fan favorite represented on OCR, and a hearty welcome to Miso29, who makes an impact with a tight, energzied, searing debut!

After glancing through the other reviews and the writeup, I had to look up the original source out of curiosity. It's nice to see unique sources pop up! This was a great metal banger. I appreciate the extra touches to give it a holiday sort of vibe. Rock on! ?

I use ocremix from about 10 years, but i have never posted a message.
This is the first time because i couldn't resisted after listened this amazing remix.
We spend years playing Sonowboard Kids with my friends. For me is one of the best multiplayer games for N64.
I remember more beautiful songs in the grass, night and sand tracks.
Excellent work man!! Thanks a lot for the contribution.
