Outset Initiative (Zeke Fenelon) returns with a stirring, downright sublime acoustic arrangement from TESSERACT: An Acoustic Fez Album, exploring the rotational indie platformer's superb soundtrack by Disasterpeace:
Featuring:
- Andrew Steffen: violin
- Yulia Nechaeva: piano
""Windrose" is a tranquil piano and violin arrangement from the Fez universe and a nod of the head to the beautiful soundtracks from Joe Hisaishi and Studio Ghibli. Special thanks to both Yulia Nechaeva and Andrew Steffen for their wonderful performances in bringing this track to life.
I can't recommend strongly enough that everyone check out the rest of the album; this one turned into something quite special! Put it on in the background or something, you won't regret it, I promise."
With Hisaishi as a noted influence, expectations do run high... and are met, if not exceeded. Truly beautiful work, with sustained notes that'll raise the hairs on your arm. I'm not saying you have hairy arms. Tiny hairs. The chromatic touches here and there add just the right bit of flavor to a generally warm & inviting melodic duet between soaring violin from Andrew and delicate, crystal-clear piano from Yulia, and the accompaniment serves them both. Every note is just so; DragonAvenger concurs:
"Lovely and emotive playing here, and the small variations on the tempo and delivery of the theme add a lot of character to this mix. The combination of piano and violin works perfectly for the reflective nature of the arrangement. I just want to close my eyes and float away to this."
Seconded; nothing to nitpick, highly recommended, a beautiful interpretation of a more ambient, synthetic source that's also gorgeous in its own right. Check out the whole album for more; bravo to Zeke, Andrew, & Yulia for a stunning homage & transformation of Rich's work!

I really enjoyed the piano in this remix, it was so crisp! The vibe was mostly chill but had a feeling of lost memories or some sort of recollection/flashback. Excellent job on this remix!

I'm not familiar with the source or the influence, but you don't have to be. This is a very nice, touching piece. I wager quite a lot of thought and work went into this... it feels as though it's trying to tell a story, although I'm not sure of what.
