Mordi (Martin Lande) hits us up with some old gold from 8 (!) years ago, arranging Dave Wise's classic "Forest Interlude" from DKC2 in a chill, new age + beats style that's synth-forward:

"This arrangement was made back in 2011, and it's been sitting on my hard drive ever since. It was made using FL Studio 9, with Zebra2 and Audjoo Helix comprising most of the sound, if I remember correctly. My biggest peeve is the solo at the end. However, I feel like the tune stands on its own just fine in its current state. Nothing has been done to it since it was rendered in 2011. Fun fact: The choir in the background is actually Slaygon, the guy behind SLAY Radio."

Very cool; sounds like a perfectly decent, ethereal choir patch, wouldn't have guessed it was recorded/homegrown. This source is chill to begin with, so Martin stays in that arena but tweaks it and also adds the aforementioned & really rather cool synth solo. Larry lays it down:

"It's practically impossible to go wrong with this theme, one of David Wise's most catchy and memorable. Martin kept this melodically conservative but added motion and textural depth with the faster tempo, syncopated beats, active bassline, and very subtle usage of Slaygon's choir vocals in the second half. I don't know why Mordi came down on himself for the solo from 2:32-2:54, which sounded like a short bit of fun; it's a pretty textbook synth, but I have fond memories of it from some of moog's tracks over at Remix.Kwed.Org, so you won't hear a bad word from me. Good stuff taking an already strong theme and adding some subtle but substantive seasoning. :-)"

Agreed; the appeal here is largely the same as with the source, but the furniture's been rearranged, the synths get to play in the backyard for a spot, and there's more motion & momentum. 2011 doesn't *seem* like it was that long ago, but this holds up well either way, reminding me of Enigma and subsequent artists who worked beats into ambient/new age spaces. Good stuff from Mordi, extremely easy to dig, and I'm VERY glad to have it sitting on OCR (as opposed to a hard drive that's gotta be feeling its age) - enjoy!

Giving this tune a bit of new age, choir-filled tune-up was neat, as it felt like an extension of the original, kinda like some of the tracks from the Returns games with some returning tracks. Agreed with CJ, that pause and following section of the mix was the best. Really good work here.

That first transition around the 40 second mark was really good. I really enjoyed the low-key percussion in this. My favorite part of the remix is around 2:12, that pause that leaps into the best part of the original tune IMO. You nailed the groove of the original and gave it your own spin. Fantastic job! :)

Heavenly! It doesn't stray much from the original song but that's not really a bad thing for a song this good
