Jorito (Jorrith Schaap):

"When I discovered the Skies of Arcadia album project, I was thrilled. I have a lot of good memories of the game from my Dreamcast days and, since the album is for an RPG I actually played and enjoyed a lot, I couldn't not write a track. Browsing through the OST, I stumbled upon the "Eastern Air Pirates" track, which instantly gave me an Ennio Morricone vibe. Since I've always wanted to create a spaghetti Western-style track, it was too good to pass up. Of course, that means using all the classic Morricone sounds like the twangy guitar (courtesy of Aster), the harmonica (courtesy of Furilas), the soaring soprano vocals (courtesy of Lauren the Flute), and, of course, the whistling (courtesy of yours truly).

Creating the spaghetti Western vibe came so easy that it felt like cheating, but the flow of the track, the incorporation of "Yafutoma Dawn" and overall production took considerably more work. Still, I am very happy with (and proud of) the end result and am very grateful to my collaborators that made the Western vibe come really alive and made the track great. Thanks a lot, guys. Onwards we ride. Yeehaa!"

Guys & gal; excellent work, indeed, and I must say that's some *quality* whistling from Jorrith. Comparisons to "A Fistful of Nickels" are unavoidable, as both mixes go for an explicitly Ennio aesthetic & feature collaborators on live instruments. And you know what? Both mixes are fantastic :) Mac & Lauren add:

Furilas (Mac Hunter):

"I'm gracious for any chance I get to dust off my harps these days, even if Jorito insists on authenticity and I'm doomed to wearing a poncho and spurs in midsummer sessions. Well, like they said at the remix battle of Silver City in 1862, "never let heat stroke get in the way of a good take!""

Lauren the Flute (Lauren Liebowitz):

"I was lucky enough to grow up with both Sega and Nintendo consoles, and I've always loved RPGs the most. Naturally, that means my sister and I put a lot of time -- like, a lot of time -- into Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast. I've also been obsessed with Ennio Morricone's music since long before I knew the composer's name. Therefore, when Jorito approached me to see if I'd be willing to sing on this track, I immediately said yes because it's a combination of several things near and dear to my heart! I can't say I quite captured the feel of Morricone-style operatic singing, but I did my best to do this track justice and I'm proud to have been part of it. Thank you!"

Cool that Jorrith & Lauren are BOTH Skies/Morricone fans, and the enthusiasm & homage comes through in every note - this nails the style, resonating with (true) grit, and you can almost feel the dust & tumbleweeds brush past as you listen. Judges had to ensure that the brief nod to "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly" was indeed brief, but other than that and some minor nits, everyone was on the wagon. Chimpazilla writes:

"What a cool track this is! Totally immersive. The mixing is just right for what it is trying to achieve, every element has its place and nothing overstates itself. The arrangement is dynamite. Completely enjoyable track, great work!"

Something different from Jorito, but successful, epic, & consistent with his approach of strategic collaborations with amazing live musicians & vocalists. Delizioso!

There can never be enough spaghetti western on this site. This was definitely a banger for that genre. This felt straight out of a movie or Red Dead Redemption. The operatic voices, the instrumentation, all of it was done fantastically. Excellent remix. Congrats and kudos to everyone who worked on it!

I wish I had more history to say about this track that I did with the others, but I don't. This track is just plain awesome. I thought it an interesting choice to do a spaghetti western theme for the track with Jorito pitched it, but I was willing to give it a whirl. I know this was a combo track of Yafotuma Dawn and Eastern Sky Pirates, but it was clear the Sky Pirates was the dominant theme of the two, Jorito struggled hard trying to incorporate Yafotuma into the melody somehow. Within a short span of a few months, he gave me a WIP that sealed my love for the peace and I signed off on this amazing rendition and he went full throttled and got additional performers to make it the best it could be! Definitely one of my favorite tracks on the album and hot off the heels of the atmospheric Dark Rift theme "The Darkness is Already Here." A perfect wake-up call from the somber rift, just like in the game!

As a bass player, I super super dig the electric bass on this. I can just see some full-suited, sweating Italian session player with a 60's Fender jazz bass, squished inside the pit alongside all the other musicians, trying his absolute best to stick to the notation while everyone else gets cooler parts than him. A consummate pro.

Funnily enough, Mac (Furilas) is also a great bass player, but I was so focused on the harmonica part that I forgot to ask him if he’d be interested in performing on bass too. Awell, the sampled bass worked pretty well too, by the sound of it :)

I don't think I even want to say a lot here. "Epic" is just a huge understatement when it comes to describing this remix. Simply one of those tracks that make the chills run down my spine. Incredible job, everyone!
