ReMix:Chrono Cross "Yesterday's Dream" 4:17

Rebecca E. Tripp sends us a serene, inspiring folk/new age/classical homage to Chrono Cross:

"This is my arrangement of "Dream of the Shore Near Another World" by Yasunori Mitsuda. It's sort of an elaborated extension of the small "Another World Overworld" movement I created for my "Chrono Cross Epic Orchestral Medley." This version is elongated but also spliced with some pieces of the credits theme/"Radical Dreamers". I've said it before and I'll say it again! Chrono Cross has one of the best soundtracks ever composed for anything! It is my personal favourite soundtrack (perhaps sharing that space with a couple Final Fantasy titles)."

The pizzicato bassline here is comparatively agile, with more syncopation at times than any other component, making for an interesting blend with more minimal hand percussion, harp, choral, & plucked/strummed components. Levels are a bit low, and there's some late-breaking harmonic oddness at 3'11" that didn't sit well with many, but judges were generally still digging it; prophetik music did a superb job breaking everything down:

"this was mastered surprisingly quiet (more than 3db below 0).

this is a very& safe arrangement through 1:13. personally i'd say that this is essentially the same as the original, just scored for an orchestra, and i don't consider that to be enough arrangement to satisfy our guidelines. however, it's superbly realized, and there's a lot more body to the rest of the arrangement to justify such a close reorchestration of the original early on. for example, the section at 1:27 through 1:59 does a great job passing the melody around and through some additional harmonies, and represents exactly what rebecca's capable of...

...i also applaud your willingness to get outside the box and really throw a wrench in at 3:10. it was awkwardly done (a I chord sustained next to a V7/vi is always going to sound funky!) but well-intentioned, and it does a nice job adding a hook to a pretty and calm (albeit drawn-out) ending section...

...the arrangement is solid, the production is quiet but well-done, and the orchestration is at your usual par. nice work."

Rexy & MindWanderer both also noticed the dissonance/harmonic blip, and I don't think it worked quite as intended for them, either, but there's enough lush, reflective, & rich tapestry surrounding it to compensate. I don't think any of the judges view this as one of Rebecca's strongest works, but most felt it was a (very) worthwhile foray into some classic VGM source territory, & imbues the original with new colors & dreamlike textures.
