Our second 40th bday double-mixpost feature from OceansAndrew (Andrew Luers) is an EDM take on DKC2's iconic "Stickerbush Symphony" that's titled with its most common mispronounciation/misspelling. I'm sure I've been guilty several times over the years, myself. Now I can just pretend I'm referring to this mix, which was originally started for a "Make-a-Mix" live remixing/tutorial panel at a convention (MAG 2018) - very glad that Andrew went ahead and polished the strong initial concept into a full piece, as I hoped he would at the time. Undulating pads & synth filters us in to a big ole' sub bass drop before an electrified zappy beat gets going. Larry Oji writes:

"Nice fade-in of the melody followed by the drop at :28; right from the get-go, this puts a lot of personality and swagger to the presentation. I liked the beats added in at 1:05 giving a little extra oomph and making the rhythm feel different despite the tempo being the same.

Just a fun listen overall; even though the overall energy level's consistent, there are a lot of small yet constant subtle evolutions of the sounds and textures to keep this developing throughout. A textbook example of how to be melodically conservative yet overtly interpretive and personalized."

Some additional mileage/differentiation comes from the four-on-the-floor kick used towards the end, which pushes things forward. There are also additive/subtractive measures, some octave doubling, and of course production keeps a good deal of evolving motion going w/ modulaton. What's not to like? Nothing, for the panel, as Sir_NutS adds:

"I like the instrumentation on this a lot. Big sidechained synths and cool drums. Tons of re-arrangement when it comes to harmony and re-structuring of the source makes this stand out from the other stickerbush remixes I've heard."

The first version that was evaluated had a cutoff ending, which was really the only thing judges criticized. That's been resolved/revised since, and the finished product is a pulsing, toe-tapping rework of a David Wise classic! Happy birthday to Mr. Luers and major props for the double dose of great mixes!

The piano and synth work together beautifully in this one, and it sounds so good especially when it hits that second gear halfway through.

I like the call and response of the piano and the synth. This track has a lot of energy from the get-go and then finds more in the tank at the 2 minute mark. It's a bright, zippy, full take on a classic from an always reliable mixer.
