Newcomer Danilo Ciaffi opens the week with a dramatic, stirring symphonic take on "Midna's Lament," with live oboe from collaborator Medllix:
"This track has been an itch of mine for quite a while. It is very emotional and sweet, but also epic and moving. I aimed at a more cinematic vibe, still preserving the original mood. I wanted to keep all the flavors and it was an absolute pleasure to have Medllix performing oboe for it. Huge thanks to Medllix! Check her out at http://youtube.com/medllix for more woodwind goodness! She gave the piece much more life I could have ever done on my own.
A lot of effort went in this arrangement. I was really afraid to take on this piece because so many people did it. I'm happy I could give something special to it. :) Hope you like it!"
Sir_NutS writes:
"Yep this is pretty dope. Short and sweet, with complex orchestration and solid, believable performances. MW noted this but the only section I felt the sequencing getting a bit exposed was around the second minute. But overall pretty good, enjoyable and overall original adaptation."
I dug the stage-forward, booming percussion, and Medllix's oboe livens the arrangement & elevates the sampled instrumentation surrounding it; good stuff. Judges were unanimous, but most decisions did have some specific criticisms; Chimpazilla adds:
"I love this theme so much (remixed it myself). This is a lovely, dynamic and interesting interpretation. The instruments are sequenced well enough, although everything feels just a tad dry and in some areas the track feels hot (possible overcompression or very close to it). Still, it is very nice."
Brass takes a backseat to strings here, and strings are somewhat secondary to woodwinds, although pizzicato bass is dominant. On top of that you've got piano w/ delay, harp, and a smattering of woodwinds, and everything blends well & conveys emotional/narrative development. Good stuff from Danilo & Medllix; beautiful theme from a beautiful soundtrack, and they've crafted a unique, emotive interpretation!

Once the Oboe came in around 1:20, this remix definitely got elevated. This was overall an excellent orchestral style remix, and a nice listen.

Exquisite. Forceful grandeur tempered by delicate passion, this piece conveys many forms of lamenting in its concise span. A lovely progression that leaves one emotionally exhausted. Very well done.
