MALCOS!!

We last featured the superb work of Stephen Malcolm-Howell with a bangin' Gunstar Heroes mix back in 2013, so... "it's been too long" is an understatement. He's got not one but TWO tracks on Shonen ReMix Jump!, they're both great, and after almost seven years, it's a breath of fresh air to finally be gushing/raving about Stephen's music again. This energetic d'n'b/breakbeat mix of DBZBT2 has slick, high-impact energy and rocks some of the crispest & cleanest production I've heard from him. Album director WiFiSunset writes:

"I absolutely love the energy this remix has! I've been listening to this one trying to think of why I feel like this fits DBZ so well, and it's because this remix jumps from one musical soundscape to another (music's a very visually colorful thing for me). A good example of this is 1:39's beautiful transition with those strong drums that maintain the remix's energy."

Larry "Liontamer" Oji adds:

"Stephen did a great job setting this apart from the original despite having breakbeats and high energy like the source tune. Good deal adding in the wholly original section from 1:39-2:22, and I enjoyed the ethereal sound to a lot of the backing writing that gave depth to the textures here. Really satisfying stuff here that actually got wilder than the original song. Always great to see & hear Malcos bringing that old school heat to OCR!"

It's DBZ, so - gratuitous "Over 9000"-isms aside - it's gotta be at least a *little* over-the-top, right?? From the deep 808-style sub, dubsteppish laser bass, and of course the frenetic, Bruce Lee-speed beats, everything clicks, making this one of my favorite tracks from Malcos - especially nice work with transitions, filtering, drops, etc. to glue it all together, which is what takes tracks in this genre to the next level. Hearing this actually makes me a little sad we haven't heard more from Stephen in recent years, because this is HOT. Ends a little quick but it beats a fadeout; fantastic work in every way from Malcos, who stays in the stylistic ballpark of the source but knocks it out of said ballpark with sweet upgrades, shiny production, and additional mojo!

Nothing like some good ol DnB drums to get the party going and kick things up a notch! This was surprisingly chill given how nutso the drums were going most of the time. This was fun to listen to, very good job!

Tight dnb action for sure. Reminds me how much I like this kind of stuff, especially when it's this good! Inspiring!

Malcos!! I love it. Exudes DnB all over with them hot drum loops, but maintains an engaging structure and an evolving atmosphere. :)
