From Pixel Mixers' Final Fantasy VII Remake: Beneath a Stolen Sky comes a sophomore mix from Infinity Tone [Karol (Charles) Kosacki], who debuted back in January of last year with a sweet FF7 metal mix & who follows that up here with an industrial/fusion take on "Turks' Theme," collaborating with subversiveasset (Andrew Spriggs) on saxophone. Charles writes:
"Here's my submission of a track from Final Fantasy VII. Instrumental, fusion/electronic cover of the "Turks' Theme" from the game Final Fantasy VII / FFVII: Remake. It is a part of BENEATH A STOLEN SKY, a full album by Pixel Mixers that is a tribute to the Midgar-related section of Final Fantasy VII. It was an honor to be part of the album!
Andrew contributed his fantastic alto saxophone skills. His part is the highlight of the track! Everything else you hear in this track was produced using virtual instruments - guitars from Impact Soundworks, Steven Slate drums, and other VSTs.
Hope you have fun listening!"
Andrew adds:
"Thanks so much for inviting me to collaborate on this! This turned out sooo well!"
Really nice genre blend; keeps you guessing a bit as to whether things will go in a more aggressive/metal direction at first, but the sax entrance at 1'07" signals that this is indeed a more fusion-style track, with an interesting combination of elements that I would associate with the 80s, 90s, and today. Judges were unanimous, but did also have some shared concerns about timing/harmonies & intonation on the sax; Liontamer writes:
"I had to turn up the volume a touch to truly hear the details. I'm OK with the looseness of the timing in parts; nothing sounded out of place. There were some flat moments with the sax, but nothing close to making this not a pass on performance grounds. Great variations of the source tune throughout; lots of great varied iterations from both Karol and Andrew, and strong dynamic contrast during the whole piece! Short and sweet, good deal!"
I think the sax will bother you more if you've got perfect pitch or are a stickler for such things; I did notice it, before reading any judge comments myself, and it's the type of thing where (subtle! tasteful!!) auto-tune might have been warranted. DragonAvenger also noted that resonance with the source was on the liberal side, but overall everyone was digging the take, and I think the arrangement does a particularly good job of creating a chill, badass-mofo Turkish (Turks-ish?) attitude. Great work from Charles & Andrew - be sure to check out the whole album!

This remix definitely has a good chunk of swag and swagger in it, which is very fitting as it turns out! Excellent saxophone work and very good drum work!
