Album: Donkey Kong Country 2: Serious Monkey Business

Ten years later, this album remains a delight to me, probably one of the three best there is to be found on OCR. From the barnburner of an opening track by djpretzel all the way on, it's just great.

I'm a particular fan of:

1-13 - especially the guitar melody at 3:50 goes into an FF prelude-y outro

1-14 - the song just keeps mixing it up with male vocal, female vocal, guitar, and piano so it stays fresh as it hits the melody of the track

2-04 - steel drum vibe is so perfect

2-07 - the whole section from like 1:30-2:30, with the smear at 2:00 to mark the transition from an electronic sound to more traditional string hits

2-11 - I practically feel like I'm white knuckling a flight with Squawks; this track starts off at a frantic pace and never subsides, with a notable punch your face with awesomeness hitting at about 3:40

Hey, six years later and it's still one of my favorite albums on here, no joke (Cartography and probably the FF albums compete, but it's not a clear case of 'best album', in any case). Don't worry, Curtis, you're not alone on that opinion; this is an awesome album.

Howdy, to all you super talented bast---, uh, individuals out there! I got to say, ever since this double album came out, I'm still floored with it! The. Whole. Thing. Every single track is of such superior quality that I cannot get enough, even all these years later! As I was listening to it yet again tonight, I was wondering how possible it would be for somebody to patch these songs into the actual game, you know, over the appropriate stages. This makes me wonder if maybe Nintendo might be interested in doing so, in this age of fan service. Maybe David Wise could ask them.... #FingersCrossed

I'm guessing nobody checks this thread anymore, but anyway: while in a mall the other day I heard a song being played, and was immediately struck by its similarity to the Roller Disco remix in the DKC2 album. Am I going crazy?

It's not the just the melody, but also the use of synths. Probably just coincidence but I found it interesting nonetheless.

I've known this album for a while, but it sort of got lost in my 'random play all' playlist, so I haven't heard it for some time...

Just to give the thumbs up to this whole album which features some amazing tracks (rare respite, crystal swamp...), and especially one particularly big thumbs up to Backwards Room by zykO, who worked on a 22 second long music featured only once in the game (I think.... I'm pretty sure) and created... one of the insan-iest rock track I know !

To me, this is the definition of what OCR stands for: working out of little, and producing masterpieces. And this is why I asked if somebody would do a remix of the 4-second-long Tune of Currents of Zelda, Oracle of Ages (*wink* *nudge* anybody want to get back to that? *nudge* *wink* )

According to Rare, Eveline Fischer did Simian Segue, Candy's Love Song, Voices of the Temple, Forest Frenzy, Treetop Rock, Northern Hemispheres and Ice Cave Chant, none of which appear in DKC2 under any circumstances. Robin Beanland's only addition to DKC was Funky's Fugue and we all know that didn't appear in DKC2, heh. So therefore, all the DKC2 tracks based off those from DKC were done solely by David Wise.

I don't think it matters too much what the main OCR site says; even if it's slightly incorrect, oh well, who cares?

The songs you mentioned are (in the same order you mentioned them) Jib Jig, Klomp's Romp, and Snakey Chantey, which WERE covered on the project by Patrick Burns, Joren de Bruin, and Tepid. Don't worry, they weren't left out

There are 3 original tracks in DKC2 that I don't seem to see in this album:

These are the titles from the SPC rips. I know Rigging is on the level where you are climbing up the ship's rafts during the rain.

Why were these not remixed (or maybe they are and I just don't recognize them)? These, IMHO, are some of the best songs in the original DKC2 soundtrack.

so i was in the living room doin something when my computer turned on and rhumba rumble started playing (my laptop had run out of juice and i was recharging it).

it was at that very moment that i realized it was the greatest ringtone evur

(my review? the entire album kicks ass, but it definitely had to grow on me, initially i only liked a few tracks. the only song i dont like is the remix of the map screen, mostly because i expected it to be godly because the source is that in itself)

actually DKC3 album was started when this one was released. it's in the works (find it in the projects thread). Interestingly, they're remixing both the original SNES soundtrack by Eveline Fischer and the GBA version by David Wise
